Baseball assessment comment
editThe comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Brandon Phillips/Comments (baseball), and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.
The account given on this page of Phillips' outstanding play during the game of August 30, 2007 contains an error.
Josh Phelps did not single on the play Phillips made on August 30. Phelps had just doubled and was the runner on second base who was thrown out at the plate on the play being discussed. It was Nate McClouth who singled on the play - which was into right field, not left field - and it was scored as a single to 2B (infield single) even though Phillps fielded the ball in right field, behind Reds first baseman Jeff Keppinger and in front of right fielder Ken Griffey Jr. For verification of who the Pirates' players were who were involved, see the game logs on Baseball-Reference.com: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/PIT/PIT200708300.shtml ...and scroll down to the bottom of the ninth inning. I'd edit/fix it myself but I have no idea how this interface works. kc2hmz@wzrd.com |
