More bad brands
- GPT (GEC Plessey Telecommunications) - sounded smelly (Je pete) when abbreviation was said in French.
- Rolls Royce Silver Mist - sounds like rubbish in German.
- Osram - sounds bad in Polish
- Lays crisps (same company as Walkers) - sounds rude in English
Ford Pinto and Brazil?
Ford sold a rather infamous subcompact car as the Ford Pinto in many countries, but not in Brazil. The Ford Corcel occupied the corresponding position in the Brazilian market and a few adjacent points. The descriptions of Ford "prying off Pinto nameplates and replacing them" is likely apocryphal, as the Pinto was never sold in Brazil, but the name meaning "a small chicken" in Brazilian sexual slang is likely real.
