  Bethuel
derives from (btl 295a) meaning `virgin' or `being kept separate,' rendering

`Virgin Of God.' Between the segments and is the letter (waw 519) which usually indicates a constructive connection between the two; with.

Prolly.. the name is supposed to mean Daughter With God.

The meaning of this name is disputed. Without reasons given, BDB assumes a text error and derives from (mat 1263), meaning man,

and El (93a) meaning God: Man Of God. But the name starts with bat,

not with mat, so this explanation seems uncalled for. There are two words

(bat: 254b, 298a). The first one means daughter (254b), the second one

is a measure of volume equal to about 22 liters (298a).

There are two Bethuels mentioned in Scriptures. One is a town in Simeon (1 Chr 4:30). The other Bethuel is a son of Nahor and Milcah, and the father of Laban and Rebekah.

How do I know this? my name is Bethuel.I have a personal interest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.181.50.86 (talk) 08:19, 16 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
