Religion
editthe first paragraph of the article say he was jewish-canadian. what the hell is that? for all the ignorant and uninformed, judaism is NOT a nationality. it is a RELIGION, therefore, jewish-canadian makes ZERO sense. i don't describe myself as a catholic-american. i am an american no matter what religion i am. come on people. i know i'm not the only person who read that, but am i the only person who read it and ISN'T prejudice against certain religions? i'm changing it.
POV
editMy POV concern is regarding the following:
- Note: the Weiders have been criticized for monopolizing the sport of bodybuilding. Weider's magazines have, according to critics, publicized incorrect training articles and weightlifting systems that cannot possibly be followed by the average person.
I'm not arguing the truthfullness of this statement, but I think it is NPOV enough that it requires a source or sources. fbb_fan 02:14, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Books
editI have corresponded with Ben about the cause of Napoléon I’s death. He said he has written three books on the issue: “Assassination at St. Helena”, “Assassination at St. Helena Revisited” and “The Murder of Napoleon”. He wrote the first together with Sten Forshufvud. The two others might have been written by both of them or just Ben. It depends on when they were written since Sten died in 1985. Anyone who happend to know?

I locked up the two other books on Amazon.com. “Assassination at St. Helena Revisited” was written by both Ben and Sten Forshufvud. “The Murder of Napoleon” was written only by Ben. It might well have been written after Sten’s death. Anyone who happend to know when it was first issued?

I have a listing of his books on his site. I have listed many of his English publications but have not placed his French works. His works on Napoleon has been published in many languages. I will start this week on references as few listings exist on his citation page. Any suggestions? We also need references relating to his honors.

What do you mean with “his website”? Your inlay is not to any help for me. Furthermore, the book list neads a cleanup. Why would a book be printed for the first time ten years after one of the authors died?

I want to point out that General Franceschi has Michel as his given name.

Year of birth and age
editThe first sentence and the infobox state he was born in 1924 - but he is in the 1923 births category. The infobox states he was 84 - but the biography section and some refs state he was 85. Werdnawerdna (talk) 13:14, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- To make it more confusing, IMDB has a totally different birthplace and date. It lists 29 November 1922, Montreal, Canada. I reverted one of the changes because of the source, but I'm unsure the reversion is correct either. I would be inclined towards the IMDB date, but someone should have a more direct source.LH (talk) 01:39, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
Can you not read? This issue was put to rest on 22-10-2008 (see below). Also, since when is the IMDB an authoritative source? It would be like saying something was true because you saw it in Wikipedia! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.230.22.247 (talk) 22:38, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
The most scientific way to find out I can come up with would be to ask any of his three sons. They are named Eric, Louis and Mark. If there is any Canadian reading this I am quite sure that he or she could find out the phone number of any of them. However, it would be best to forwarn here so that no-one else would do it. Who wants to be showered down with calls about an issue like this?

This article states that he was born in Poland; family emigrated to Canada when he was a child. Older brother Joe's article states that Joe was born in Canada in 1922. It is extremely unlikely that both articles' statements are true. What is the truth? If anyone knows, please correct the false information. Werdnawerdna (talk) 13:31, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Answer (22-10-2008):
In the Montreal Gazette article on Oct. 19, 2008, entitled,"Bodybuilder created an empire" it states: "Benjamin Weider was born in Montreal on Feb. 1, 1923, to Jewish Polish immigrants Louis and Annie Weider". The New York Times in the article, "Ben Weider, Who Helped Popularize Bodybuilding, Dies at 85" states "Benjamin Weider was born in Montreal, where his parents had settled after leaving Poland."
Since Ben was born in 1923, this makes him 85 years old.
I am updating the article.
Joe Weider's official birth records were destroyed in a fire. Of the surviving documents one says he was born in 1920, the other 1922, which is likely in error since this would make Joe less than three months older than his brother, Ben. It is most likely Joe was born in 1920, since he says in his autobiography "Brothers of Iron", that there were three years between when Joe and Ben finished Grade 7. However, Joe likes to say he was born somewhere between 1920 and 1922.
I will update Joe Weider's article.
Given name
editI don’t think he was named Benjamin. I have a copy of the book “Assassination at St. Helen” which he wrote with Sten Forshufvud. Ben sent it to me in December 2007 after we had had a lengthy e-correspondence on the cause of Napoléon I Bonaparte’s death. In it the author’s name is written as “Ben Weider” and not as “Benjamin Weider”. This can be compared to Robert Bakker who is commonly called Bob. I have a Swedish translation of his book “The Dinosaur Heresies”. The name of the author of this book is written “Robert T. Bakker” and not “Bob Bakker”. Anyone who has any better source?
