Crew size
editI removed the reference to an "exceptionally" large crew because it does not fit with what has been seen in the series. The series has given the ship a crew compliment of about 2500, and although that seems large, it is actually quite small given the 1200+m (4000+ft) length of the ship. By comparison, a Nimitz class aircraft carries is a bit over 300m (1000ft) long, a fiftieth of the overall size, and has a crew compliment of nearly 6000. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.207.104.115 (talk • contribs) 2006 February 26
Ship age
editThe original text stated:
- The Battlestar Galactica was built 500 yahren before the close of the Thousand Yahren War (and the start of the TV series).
Given that a yahren is a year, it seems suspicious. I also think that from the text below:
- At the time of the Cylon Attack, Galactica was 50 years old and she was undergoing formal decommissioning from the Colonial fleet following her retirement as an operational vessel.
As such, I edited the first sentence to read that the Galactica was built 50 years before the close. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.166.178.14 (talk • contribs) 2006 September 19
- Remember that they are two different series. The original numbers were correct - the 1978 Galactica was 500 yahren old, the new one is 50 years old. Denorios 22:24, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
nah just one series. that re-imagined stuff is fake and non-canon.
Viper classes
editI have recorrected previous information I had about a Viper hanging in Joe's Bar. I had correctly labeled the Viper as a Mark II and an editor changed it to a Mark I. It is a Mark II, and there are only Mark IIs and VIIs in the new series. It is also verifable in the RDM podcast that the hanging vessel is a Mark II. Please do not change it back to Mark I. Thanks for the consideration in this. Kerusso 18:30, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Armaments
editWhere does it ever say that Galactica has KEW's? And it also has batteries that can do enemy-suppression and salvo fire.Sith Penguin Lord 14:47 21 March 2007
- Guns/bullets, miniseries and the season one episode 33, kinetic energy weapons is used instead of "Main guns" and "Point defence guns", it's also used instead of "railguns" - as we do not if a Battlestar uses that type of KEW. Matthew 19:06, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- Nowhere. People are just making ASSumptions. Thus the article needs to be changed. Trentc (talk) 22:32, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Also, retract the rear-view mirrors please
editDuring the miniseries (at 2:43:15), while preparing for an FTL jump to escape a cylon attack, Tigh says "We've gotta get those fighters back on board and retract the pods or we won't be able to jump." I'm not clear as to how strictly that rule was followed in episodes of the ongoing series, but that line suggests a structural difference between the 2003 and 1978 Galacticas. museum ship?
editIFRC, Galactica was officially decommissioned and became a museum ship in the miniseries, just before the Cylon attack, yes? May we then categorize this article at Category:Museum ships? — pd_THOR | =/\= | 00:08, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Viper Info
editNoticed that the article made no mention of Galactica's fighters in the re-imagined series. Since the air group is an important part of the ship's functions, I added a short summary about it. Dallan007 (talk) 06:28, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Origin of the name
editThere is something I'm curious ... "Galactica" is not a Spanish word? Because in English would be "Galactic", right? Same for "Pacifica". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.6.48.61 (talk) 20:07, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps, or Larson just wanted to make some of the ship names more interesting. "Battlestar Atlantia/Galactica/Pacifica/Solaria" sound better than "Battlestar Atlantic/Galactic/Pacific/Solar". Markvs88 (talk) 20:38, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
