Top Importance?
editI do not believe that this article should be considered as "top" importance. It even says The Battle of Carlisle was a relatively small, but strategically important skirmish which shows that it shouldn't be top. I'm going to go ahead and change it to mid for Wikiproject Pennsylvania. Any problems with that please let me know on my talk page! Thanks 1312020Wikicop 21:09, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- Without trying to influence your ranking (since I don't know your algorithm), I'd point out that the "relatively small" applies to the entire American Civil War. Carlisle is arguably in the top five battles fought in Pennsylvania in the past 220+ years. Hal Jespersen 21:30, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Gas Works
editThe article says that JEB Stuart set fire to the gas works of Carlisle before leaving for Gettysburg. But what were the gas works? Was it natural gas? That seems improbable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.120.0.81 (talk) 21:23, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
- It was whatever gas was used for lighting. See gas lighting for the history of the technology. Wittenberg and Petruzzi have a description of the attack on the gas works in pp. 145-47. Hal Jespersen (talk) 00:13, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
