This article should not be considered for deletion. Avant Window Navigator is definitely notable, primarily because it's the first time that someone has implemented in Linux software that resembles the panel/dock in Mac OSX. AWN is different from conventional panel programs in Linux such as gnome-panel because it uses the computers graphical memory to quickly implement a number of special effects. This software is very popular and hyped right now (July of 2007) along with similar software such as Beryl, Compiz, and Compiz-Fusion with the anticipation that slick GUI's and eye candy like these will attract more desktop users to Linux.
- Incorrect
- "primarily because it's the first time that someone has implemented in Linux software that resembles the panel/dock in Mac OSX" that is a false statement, as KXDocker has been around for sometime before AWN. Before KXDocker, there were also similar implementations using SuperKaramba for KDE.
Composite
editGNOME 2.22's Metacity have some basic window compositing support now, is it suitable for AWN ? as the article doesn't specify —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.199.177.10 (talk) 00:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes, Metacity versions 2.22 and above are suitable. It is stated in the article that any compositor is sufficient, giving Compiz as an example (mostly because it is a popular compositor). It would be silly to enumerate the compositors that work with Awn on its Wikipedia page. On the other hand, the footnote associated with that part of the article (#2 at the time of this writing) is a reference to Awn's wiki page on installation prerequisites, which does have a list of compositors. malept (talk) 01:21, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Development status
editGiven the last stable releases dates back to 2010, and the official wiki page http://wiki.awn-project.org/ is for sale, the status Active for development is no more true. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Enzotib (talk • contribs) 06:58, 18 May 2013 (UTC)
- I would have agreed until about last week (as of 13-11-07). The project has now moved to GitHub and received a new maintainer so it seems like it's active again. - JF
- Can we take a look at the "active development" claim again, keeping in mind https://github.com/p12tic/awn/graphs/contributors ? --TELunus (talk) 07:26, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
