The "facts" on the 4000 Quattro AWD system are WRONG!. There are lockable open differentials in the center (front to rear) and rear (left rear and right rear.) There is a regular open differential in the front. Calling a Quattro a FWD is like calling a FWD car 1 wheel drive! If the Quattro had a viscous center "differential" like a Subaru or a Volvo you could call it FWD or "on demand AWD" Having an open differential does not mean not connected! It means a "normal" spider gear differential. The Quattro system in a 4000 Quattro is an AWD system and a 4WD system with the differentials locked.

 The beauty of the early quattros was the lockable differentials via the differential lock switch or knob (model dependent) that locked the differentials solid (like a 4WD truck) so you could chose AWD or 4WD.
 Position #1 locked the center differential only which locked the front and rear together guaranteeing that at least one front and one rear wheel had full access to the engines torque.  The front and rear differentials spun the same speed but allowed front and rear side to side speed variations in this position.
 Position #2 of the diff lock switch/knob locked the center and rear differentials giving both rear wheels and at least 1 front wheel full access to the engines torque.  In the #2 position the front, center*, and rear differentials are forced to spin the same speed but allowed only the front wheels to have side to side speed variations which makes steering easier.
 (*the ring gear ratio makes the center differential spin the ring gear ratio X the wheel speed but drives a ring gear at the front differential and at the rear differential, thats what is meant by the "same" speed) 

The front differential is left an open differential to make steering easier.

Someone who can write well/clear and understands this technical stuff please fix the facts on the 4000 Quattro page.

specifications are for a 1984 4000 Quattro only...

The specs for this car are for a 1984 model only! '85 to '87 had a different ring gear ratio at the least...

"4000S/CS was only manufactured as a quattro permanent four-wheel drive model." This is simply wrong. There were plenty of FWD 4000S and 4000CS cars. Really this article should be called "4000 quattro" if it is to make sense. Huw Powell (talk) 03:20, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm surprised this article still exists. This information should be part of the main Audi 80 article. These cars aren't special in any way to deserve their own page. NJRoadfan (talk) 01:38, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Major concerns with this article

It appears that most of this article is "some person" writing about their car. Much of the information is incorrect, and many of the photos show non-factory features. Huw Powell (talk) 09:15, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
