Removed association with Raelian Movement
edit- In 2008 The AFA campaigned side by side with The Raelian movement (French UFO cult) against the arrival of the Pope for World Youth Day.
I removed the above line linking the AFA with Raelism because;
1. There were a large number of groups opposing World Youth Day in Sydney. I don't see why AFA and Raelian Movement should be linked because of it. The reference provided doesn't suggest the AFA and the Raelian movement had any particular association.
2. The AFA has a made a number of campaigns. To mention only one which didn't get a huge amount of media attention seems to give undue weight.
3. The line also refers to the Raelian movement as a cult but doesn't provide any evidence to support such a claim. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.70.78.214 (talk) 01:35, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
Some proposed changes
editPart of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. See detailed response below |
The part where Kylie Sturgess is no longer president and it's now Scott Sharrad , can easily be cited by just getting on to the [1] website . I wanted to be impartial from the get go atleast concerning the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics [2] with the latest census outcome in 2016 . It was at this point I thought I'd better ask if I can actually make these changes . The part where it says "The foundation publishes six issues of 'The Australian Atheist' per annum ", doesn't exist at the moment and would like to edit that out . [3] The other changes I wanted to make was adding one or two pictures of well known atheists such as Susan B Anthony and Oscar Wilde with a quote of theirs below their pictures , while placing links to their pages somewhere on the AFA Wiki page . The AFA Facebook link is [4] .

- Hi Zabebew. In regards to your requests:
- I've added a source to back up who the current president it.
- I've removed the information regarding publication of The Australia Atheist. It may be of interest to readers, however, to update this information rather than remove it. For example, saying the AFA published the Australian Atheist from 'start year' till 'end year'. If you advise me of the history I will instead add this to the article.
- It is not acceptable to 'decorate' pages with images and quotes from famous people who just happen to share the beliefs of the organisation, unless said people were directly involved with the organisation, which is not the case in this instance. Accordingly, this has not been done.
- As per WP:ELNO, it is not appropriate to add the links of social media accounts. Accordingly, the facebook page has not been added.
- I've found a source for the updated census results.
- Let me know if you have any further concerns. Damien Linnane (talk) 15:09, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
AFA(Atheist Foundation Australia)
editHi Damien Linnane ! First thing is to thank you for the changes made on the AFA Wiki article , it looks a lot sharper now :)
That's a good point about "The Australian Atheist" , from year it started to when it ceased , at least then people would know it existed , personally I have no real idea of when the magazine started and it can be disputed when it ceased because the mag stopped being printed then went completely electronic for some time until that stopped too in approx. 2016/17 , I'll have to ask our council members on this .
Being explained to me earlier why , I'm completely fine about the situation with pictures and quotes from the well known atheists not being used that I mentioned in the edit requests . What I was thinking though was maybe asking our current president for his picture & quote(s) to be placed on the article , if any former presidents want to , or using anything from the one's that are deceased .
This will probably take some time and even if neither of these things eventuate , the AFA Wiki article looks so much better now and thanks again .
Happy trails .
