Well, we can ask the Navy to reproduce the information. baloo_rch 01:19, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Templates

edit

The spanish article uses two templates, one of the War of the Pacific and other or its Chilean heroes. I don't think there are equivalent templates in the english wikipedia. Anyone care to create them, or isn't really worth it as very few of the articles linked exist in english?

Re-organization is needed

Arturo Prat is an important Hero for Chile, and I believe that this articles only confuses the reader (any non-chilean) with so much information that does not involves him at any rate. Messhermit 16:10, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why do you think that information confuses the reader? Are you confused? Let the ready decide... --194.203.215.254 12:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Think about cutting this, guys....

edit

I rewrote the introduction to make the article more comprehensible to non-Chileans.

With all due respect, the article is far too long, and goes into far too much detail as to Prat's life and career. This is especially onerous as Arturo Prat was not a particularly noteworthy figure when alive — after all, he lost the Battle of Iquique. His importance was as a political symbol, not for anything he did during his lifetime. This conclusion might sound harsh, but it is true.

To the community monitoring this article, I would request that you all come to a consensus as to this article and cut it to a more manageable length. As an editor, I will limit my own involvement to making sure that the introduction to the article is relevant and conscise.

Good luck to you all. --MILH 21:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I believe that what you have just said is accurate. It is true that Prat (just like any soldier before achieving glory while serving his country) was not a well know figure in Chile. This article should focus on the most relevant information from that period, his accions on the Battle and his legacy. Messhermit 02:19, 25 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Prat's sacrifice made the war popular between chileans. Before his death the war was very unpopular and enlistment was low. He is the greatest war hero after the Independence War. Although I agree that the article is rather long, his importance to Chilean history cannot be overstated. Last, and not least, I believe that it is preferable to have extra secondary information, than to cut and the someone coming here and not finding what he's searching. Sorry about the Huáscar/Esmeralda mix-up in the opening paragraph! Me bad. --MILH 13:06, 25 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think that the battle of Iquique needs a proper page; it is not to be discussed al large here.

I suggest to move this part to a new page.Milton 17:08, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's one already: Battle of Iquique. --Reuben 17:42, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

"He had come to take his examination before the highest judges, the final requirement to practise law. However, much to his surprise, Prat was told that the judges had decided not to hear examinations that day...."

I'm not sure, I never hear that the supreme court take examinations, ... but it simple use the university degree to give the official title of Lawyer, that is the diploma signed by all supreme court judges, that authorize to practice law. this explain that a visit to the Supreme court president is ok to obtain the diploma and be a lawyer. Please somebody chek it !!! Milton (talk) 07:02, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unclear distance

Near the section where Prat dies, it states "He stopped 1,000 from the city and 250 m from land, where they would stand until their sinking." Is the 1,000 ? from the city meters or what? 99.241.220.157 (talk) 15:35, 25 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
