- Not sure if there are any papers about the evolution of its prey capture mechanisms, but to me it doesn't seem to be particularly difficult to evolve. It could start just by spitting at insects very close to the water and go from there gradually, getting more powerful and accurate as it becomes more specialized for this niche.
