Work was never prohibited
editThe tale of the "suppression" of Alcedo's work is just a myth invented by Thompson for selling his 1812 edition. It never happened, nor was it ever published "in all major languages" as the text here says. It simply was no success, and Thompson used elements of the "black legend", namely the seclusive/obscure nature of Spanish, to sell his edition, written when Britain was at war with Napoleonic Spain, by giving the impression that the buyer would get access to secret knowledge. Quite frankly, it is absurd to believe an empire would try to secure its secrets by prohibiting an already printed and "hugely successful" publication. To just reproduce as fact what Thomspon claimed under these circumstances is quite naive. --90.161.83.26 (talk) 08:38, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
