Disambiguation/proposed move
editThere are two writers named Andrew Collins, and at the moment their pages are at Andrew Collins (writer) and Andrew Collins (author). Clearly, this is silly. Would anyone object to this page being moved to Andrew Collins (broadcaster), since this Collins seems to be as well known for his radio work as for his writing? (I think the other Andrew Collins, who writes about the paranormal, should probably be disambiguated further as well, and I'll ask about that at Talk:Andrew Collins (author). —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 00:30, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've made the move and fixed the redirects. Since all the links to Andrew Collins (writer) should still work and look fine, I'm leaving them be per WP:R#Don't fix links to redirects that aren't broken. —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 03:04, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Why not just ask the man himself? I think he's logged on here once or twice in the past. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.101.17.98 (talk) 19:51, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Looks like the page for the other Andrew Collins was deleted last October. Is "(broadcaster)" still the best disambiguation term, or would it be better to move back to "(writer)" or "(author)"? (Is one of those two preferred?) —Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 20:59, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- "Broadcaster" is fine. Even when he "writes" he is "broadcasting" his opinions and thoughts, and his preferred method of communication is radio/podcasting anyway, as it takes less effort. 188.28.51.199 (talk) 20:29, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Andrew Collins tracked to Gayocenes?
editAll the latest Gayocenes have Andrew Collins' face? That's a bit weird. 86.54.124.177 (talk) 19:23, 16 May 2011 (UTC)
Miscellaneous edits
editI think that this article could be improved if it were mentioned that, in July 2006, he received an honorary degree from University of Northampton. This would improve Wikipedia's credentials for keeping up-to-date with its entries. ACEO 18:44, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Under "Catchphases" i've added "Citation needed" as this was said by Andrew Collins in one episodes of the Collings and Herrin podcasts as part of a callback discussing a wikipedia entry. Ironically I remember which episode this was so until some delightful idiot trawls back through 70 odd hours/episodes it should be marked "[citation needed]". Ethxero (talk) 06:52, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Catchphrases section
editIn the Collings and Herrin podcast, Collins and Herring encouraged listeners to vandalize the Wiki pages of Duncan Norvelle and of themselves with 'made up but witty catchphrases'. Expect repeated vandalism of the Andrew Collins, Richard Herring and Duncan Norvelle Wiki pages. I deleted all the bullshit catchphrases that were posted on Collins' Wiki page. They will almost certainly reappear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.25.178.230 (talk) 15:45, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Collins, you bastard, if you continue to request vandelism of this page, it will be locked down so only the drummer from Napalm Death can edit your life story. I wonder what he will have to say... Consider this a dire warning from the internets. Better than you have tried to defeat us[1] We Are Many, We are Legion. Ceoil (talk) 17:42, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- By the way its Stuart Maconie who had the miserable time on tour with Napalm Death in his book Cider with Roadies not Collins (sigh). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jemstone66 (talk • contribs) 07:52, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
To be fair to Collins, he seems very keen to discourage the aforementioned vandalism, and has apparently been attempting to revert said changes when they occur. Bailey (talk) 13:42, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Yes, he did recently request that listeners to his podcast not vandalize his page and Herring's page BUT he did go onto say that listeners should use subtle vandalism not stupidly obvious stuff. He said that listeners should subtly vandalize as many obscure entries as possible, with the aim being to get the erroneous 'facts' printed in a newpaper obituary ! Seems Mr. Collins is actively encouraging and soliciting people to deface Wikipedia entries
- That's not what he said. Try listening to it again. GedUK 16:36, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
--- I have to agree. If we were to be picky about this, after listening to the podcast and reading all the wiki pages concerned I would conclude that COLLINGS is not actually the protagonist in this situation. In the interest of fairness and to provide wikipedia with as much information as possible in this biography I would be interested if you could provide a reference point on where you heard COLLINGS deliberately incite his listeners to vandalise these wikipages. If there is no reference, then there is no reason for your action. Excusesofpuppets 27/06/2009 03:47 (NZST)
Where he tells people to subtly deface Wiki pages - Go and listen to Podcast 68, it is all there. The guy who says Andrew Collins didn't say that - when he most definitely DID - is most probably Andrew Collins causing more Wiki mischief :-) Actually, I am so surprised that someone would say Mr Collins did not say that, that I am wondering if he/she has listened to another Podcast rather than 68, because this subject has been rumbling on for several Casts now.
Go and download it (Number 68) from http://www.comedy.org.uk/podcasts/collingsherrin/
You should block Collins' IP address from editing pages.
OK, here's an transcription of the relevant piece. It comes after both guys tell people to stop defacing their 2 pages and that of Duncan Norvelle....
[26:25] PODCAST 68......
Andrew Collins - If you're really clever, and none of you are, you'd do very subtle things on odd ones, not ones that are connected to you, not because you heard somebody say it, but you find a really random one, very strange, and add something that noone would ever know was wrong, and then its used in an obituary; let's say The Guardian or something,THAT'S the cleverness. What you're doing isn't clever, its' just stupid, it's just drawing a moustache on it.....[Herring interupts]
Richard Herring: But keep trying !! [Collins interjects about moustaches again] Keep trying, but stop, DON'T do it on MY page !! What's that about ?! Do in on everyone else's page !! Not Andrew Collins' page by all means !
[END 26:55]
Well, if that isn't incitement to add false information to Wikipedia, then what is ?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.15.112.188 (talk) 14:16, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, there you have it, I think you've proved my point - Collins has pointed out that the cleverest vandalism is where you get it included in a newspaper. And you also have to remember that the whole podcast is, and i'm picking the word carefully here, irreverent. Especially
Virgilio AndersonRichard Herring's bits. Can we move on now please? GedUK 14:45, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
What about catchphrases like when he calls himself "fart-tastic"? 188.29.118.36 (talk) 02:24, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Andrew Collins' Wife
editIn the very early Collings & Herrin podcast, in the first or second show, Andrew talks about his wife. Why does he no longer talk about her? Did he really have a wife at one time? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zoara2010 (talk • contribs) 17:24, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- Really, and was he being serious? GedUK 17:41, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
In an interview with greatwriting.co.uk, Andrew says: "When I get home at 8.30pm I reserve the rest of the evening for being with my wife, eating and watching TV or DVDs." (http://www.greatwriting.co.uk/content/view/1/74/). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.30.145.3 (talk) 13:56, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
The current removal of content and reverting of same
editIt really is a matter of WP:Consensus - there is one individual, using a variety of ip's (which may be fine, since perhaps they have an ISP who assigns a new one every time they log on) to remove content that is non controversial, positive to neutral in depiction, and establishes the breadth of Collins notability; and for some unexplained reason considers it to be "rubbish". There is a changing cast of other editors who feel that the information is pertinent, easily discerned, and encyclopedic. This is not an edit war, it is one disruptive editor attempting to impose their preferences against a consensus derived from the opinions of various editors and the correct application of policy. Year of birth missing
editShould this be added to the category entitled "Year of Birth Missing (Living People)? Also, the categories which are there include a category entitled "Alumni of the University of Northampton", so it would be good to know what he actually studied at the University of Northampton.
