Hi, I have some suggestions for updates/additions to this article. I’m posting here rather than editing myself because I have a COI: I work for a communications firm that represents Analog Devices. I’ll number my suggestions to make it a bit easier to keep track:
Analog Devices has stated that it has more than 100,000 customers, an update on the 60,000 currently in the article: http://www.analog.com/en/about-adi/corporate-information.html (I understand a third-party source may be necessary for updating this figure, but mentioning just in case.)
A suggestion on wording: In the opening paragraph, “signal conditioning” could be changed to “signal processing.” "Signal conditioning" is not inaccurate (Converters convert the signal, and amplifiers condition the signal, so that accounts for most of ADI’s business), but "signal processing" is a more comprehensive description of what ADI’s technology portfolio covers.
The article notes that Dan Sheingold is the editor of Analog Dialogue. This is no longer true; the current editor is Scott Wayne. (Source: bottom of page 2 here)
Healthcare could be added to the list of industries in the lead - it already has a subsection in the “Markets” section of the article.
Under “Employees,” could add a bit on current CEO Vincent Roche. Suggested wording: Vincent Roche became President and CEO of Analog Devices in May 2013. He first joined the company in 1988 as a marketing director in Limerick, Ireland. (Sources: 1, 2)
Under “Products” - Analog Devices no longer produces micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and sensors. It sold this business to Invensense in 2013. (source) In my opinion, it would make sense to remove the MEMS paragraph in the “Products” section and maybe add a line to the “History” section, similar to the note about the sale to ON Semiconductor.
I’d like to recommend that the “Acquisitions” section be revised and fleshed out a bit, potentially in table format. I’ve mocked that up in my sandbox, retaining the information and citations currently in the article where possible in addition to adding more. However, I had to replace many of the sources, as the two main sources - a company timeline on Analog’s website and a report on alacrastore.com - are no longer live and are not archived anywhere online. Some of the new sources may qualify as WP:OR, but I figured it would be better to provide as much information as possible and leave it to others’ discretion whether anything needs to get taken out.
I'd greatly appreciate any feedback on these suggestions and I'm happy to provide additional information/resources wherever helpful. Thank you! Mary Gaulke (talk) 21:14, 12 May 2015 (UTC); request edit template added Mary Gaulke (talk) 14:13, 20 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Partly done: Applied suggestion 3. to the article, along with a source and statement on Sheingold's retirement after 44 years. —Godsy(TALKCONT)23:53, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Godsy, Jytdog, thank you SO MUCH for your thoughtful work here. Just a couple questions:
With the major acquisitions incorporated into the "History" section, does it make sense to ditch the "Acquisitions" section entirely? As I noted above, the two main sources for that are now dead links.
Re: #6 above, the opening of the "Products" section still calls out MEMS as part of Analog's business. Could that be removed, please?
