Controversies Section
editA controversies section has been added to this page. Do not remove the section it is properly referenced and is a matter of public record with the Town of Monument and is relevant to the subject of this article. TurboManiacal (talk) 02:53, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- @TurboManiacal: I removed the Controversies section as it is based on a YouTube video - a primary source and not a reliable source per WP:Reliable_sources#Self-published_sources_(online_and_paper), especially for a biography of a living person. Further, even if the source were reliable, the confrontation does not appear in the video at or near the timestamp reported. If you have a published report from news media of general circulation or other fact-checked source, let us know, and we can discuss whether the source supports the addition of the material. Geoff | Who, me? 19:19, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Geoff - The assault clearly does occur at the time stamp mentioned and the incident was recorded into public record by the victim during public comment section. This is not merely a "YouTube Video" but is the recorded public record of all public meetings as required by Colorado Revised Statute (C.R.S.) 24-6-401 (2012) Your opinion that the Official Record by the Town of Monument constitutes user generated / self published sources is incorrect as this is an official recording and public record by a Municipality and Governmental Organization. The WP you linked is being misunderstood by you as that article refers to self-published material "about themselves" More specifically - "Wikipedia articles should be based mainly on reliable secondary sources, i.e., a document or recording that relates or discusses information originally presented elsewhere." Which this clearly is. Further the WP states "Primary Sources ... can be both reliable and useful in certain situations". This starkly contradicts your personal interpretation and invalidates the argument made in your first statement.
- I will wait 24hrs before I once again revert the controversies section based on your incorrect quoting of the primary sources standard that you linked. If you can make a cohesive argument against the inclusion of this section in this article then I will consider it. However, I do detect a pattern of concerning behavior after viewing your talk page, I have a modicum of concern that you hide personal bias behind an incorrect understanding of editing and do not fully consider the whole text of the articles that you link. TurboManiacal (talk) 20:33, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- Regardless - at 47:30, which is the timestamp mentioned, the board appears to be waiting for a member to return and there is no dialogue. Later, at about 50:42 on the video timestamp, the gentleman offering public comment to the Board relates a statement he says was made to him, which statement he attributes to Amy Stephens. This is not a statement by the article subject, but one made by someone else. This does not satisfy the standard required for facts in a living person's biography. It is not reported in a reliable, secondary published source. The reference is not sufficient to support the addition to the article. Geoff | Who, me? 22:31, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
- That is still your opinion and not supported by fact. TurboManiacal (talk) 04:43, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
- The burden is on you to provide a reliable source for statements in biographies of living persons. The fact is that the statements you claim to have been made by the article subject are not audible (or visible) in the YouTube video. YouTube is a generally non-reliable source, especially in this context. Feel free to take this issue to the noticeboard. Geoff | Who, me? 13:21, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
