The result of the move request was no consensus for move. –Juliancolton | Talk 01:16, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Altona, Hamburg → Altona — Altona still redirects here. --Dэя-Бøяg, 15:00, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Support: Altona, Elbe or Altona now part of Hamburg is the name-giving town for all the Altonas, Altoonas, Altona railway stations, planets and taverns in the world. I think, this deserves to be an A-level. Thanks. Sebastian scha. (talk) 15:50, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Or move Altona (disambiguation) to Altona? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 16:49, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- NB: Until 28 September 2009, the disambiguation page was located at Altona. It was moved without discussion. That it is currently a redirect should not be taken as evidence that the article on the German city should be moved. [1] older ≠ wiser 01:36, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose the dab page is the proper target. Since this is not the German Wikipedia, it is likely that people are looking for places in North America. 76.66.197.30 (talk) 04:09, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- Comment I have restored the redirect to the dab page. 76.66.197.30 (talk) 04:11, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- Comment I don't think it's proper to remove requested tags etc. during a running dicussion. Also remarks like "this is not the German wiki" are superfluous. Sebastian scha. (talk) 08:52, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- Comment I didn't remove any tags. What are you referring to? As for not German, as this is the English Wikipedia, there are terms that in English would more naturally be associated with certain things, that in German would be associated with other things. 76.66.197.30 (talk) 13:05, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- No, you didn't, but reinstalling redirects while under discussion, IMHO is inappropriate, like removing tags. For your German wikipedia comment: this article is named according to the conventions, not how they named it at de:wiki (as shown if you followed the link) and in a few other Altona-related articles this former city is even linked (see Altona (town), New York). I think this comment was assuming bad faith and not alienated me, because I'm typical German stubborn. Sebastian scha. (talk) 13:23, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- The redirect is not under discussion, the name of this page is under discussion. Redirects get overwritten all the time by WP:RM discussions, whether they point to the article in question or not. 76.66.197.30 (talk) 18:35, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- We discuss to move Altona, Hamburg to Altona (then redirected here). I think changing the redirect back (yes, Altona was moved to disambig for the purpose of this pagemove.) is my point of concern about your edits and actions. But I stated my point and will refrain from further discussion. Sebastian scha. (talk) 19:05, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

- Support - the North American and Australian places of that name are tiny. The largest is the Australian one, which has fewer than 10,000 people. None of the North American ones have even 4,000 (the city in Pennsylvania is spelled differently). The Hamburg district, on the other hand, has a quarter million people. It is clearly the primary topic. john k (talk) 15:41, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose I don't think relative population size establishes what is primary topic, at least not in and of itself. The redirect going to this page would be compelling, if it wasn't such a recent change. So what does google have to tell us about this? There are many uses of Altona other than the Hamburg town even on the first page. I see no basis, by any reasonable measure, for primary topic here; the dab page should be at Altona. --Born2cycle (talk) 16:07, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. Move Altona (disambiguation) to Altona. To replace a dab page, or a redirect to a dab page, you need clear and convincing proof that we have a primary topic. That case has not been made here. In fact there appears to be strong evidence to support the fact that Altona, Hamburg is in fact not the primary use. Vegaswikian (talk) 07:38, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Dubious
editI have marked the present section on etymology "dubious" and asked for sources: [2]. "All to nah" sounds very much like a folk etymology made to explain a name that's no longer transparent. If I may guess, something corresponding to High German "Altenau" might be more plausible. But that's just my guess. Linguistic sources are needed to bring light into this. 83.253.1.17 (talk) 00:02, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Heading titled "Diet of the Borough" possible rename or section rework
editGiven there are only a handful of places in the world where the word "Diet" applies to a legislative body (yes, I had to look it up), the heading as written is likely to confuse most people in the English speaking world who will be wondering why this section doesn't mention sauerkraut or sausages or some other ridiculous cliché.
Perhaps a rewording is in order to avoid confusion, and a small-in section explanation that the legislative body is known as a "Diet" with a link to https://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Diet_(assembly) ? RobinsSL (talk) 02:20, 26 November 2017 (UTC)
