Referencing
editThe method of referencing that is being used on this page is odd. The notes are better, but the References section should contain the references tag only. There are more complex methods of citing but the one used here is going to get to look really odd if someone adds another [5] without adding to the references list. All sorted i think. This looks better anyway. Dommccas 18:00, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Best in Derby?
editThis is looking good now. If there were some pictures added then I think this would easily be a "B". Anyone got a camera? Victuallers 20:00, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Requested Assessment
editI have placed a request here to see if we can get an external view. Victuallers 02:15, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
GA?
editMight be able to go GA? Thought's please. Bluegoblin7 22:45, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Some scope issues I think... why is Markeaton here and it has its own article... however if we have a champion.. Victuallers 15:06, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Just to reply to the above. The reason I put Markeaton there is because it falls entirely within the boundaries of the ward of Allestree and this is an article abut the willage and the ward of Allestree. In an ideal world this would be a brief outline and the main article would be Markeaton and contain much more info. I'll put a main article thing there now.
Also what is a champion, can i be one, it sounds fun.
If anyone has any ideas what needs to be included or anything that is missing please do comment. I've used up my brain on this and there isn't much more info you can get from the interent I might have to go down the local library but thats in Derby, where I am not.Dommccas 12:01, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
GA
editSo I see you have become multi-coloured ..very nice... Oh yes. Thanks for coming back about the Ward and pleased to see you are not deterred. Champion? Well I mean someone who is going to answer all the criticisms (mostly constructive) that you will get in going for GA. Now I have never been there. But Basically you first need to investigate "peer review" .... you put your name down and alot of people give advice. Having cleared that then you can go for GA. Similar process but more formal. You could go straight there and maybe you would on your 4th or 5th visit. But Peer Review ... I think. You could also ask all the Derbyshire members to "take a pop". Oh ... I also Started a Stub on John Mundy (mayor) 12:39, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh and see this. I would expect a GA article to have most of this... and Sonia has already typed it up Victuallers 12:57, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
- I will look into that source. The article could do with a bit of work, the lead is a little flat and the hole history section could do with some clarification. It's just hard only having to do this over the internet.
- I'll be a champion so if you have any critisim's please send them via me. I'll look into going to peer review but i was under the impression that was for FA status and this is nowhere near that yet. I'll try to spruce it up over next week.
- Thanks for noticing my spangly signature it took me ages but looks a bit rubbish Dommccas 16:28, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Nominated
editThis has now been nominated as a good article so we'll see what other people think of this. Dommccas 17:20, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
Good luck... I think the figures and tables give it a lot of gravitas. I looked it up in Domesday... did you know it used to be a berewick of Markeaton. Victuallers 22:57, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
GA Review
editThe article does not currently meet the Good Article criteria, and will not be listed. The prose and text overall is very good, and there are little problems with that; it's quite easy to read and understand. But it is mainly lacking in the areas of completeness and reference citations. Any information which is challenged, or likely to be challenged, should be cited. Specific facts and figures, events, and other information, should include its inline citation formatted according to WP:CITE. More specific issues with the article follow:
- Missing a description of the local government and/or administration (government section).
- Missing a description of transportation (roads, highways, rail transport, buses, etc).
- Missing a description of the culture; cultural points of interest, annual cultural events. The article should have a cultural section discussing these things. It might help to Start by combining the Allestree Park & Markeaton sections, as they are major cultural points of interest, and look somewhat awkward in their own main sections (the information is better tied together).
- The religion section could be combined into the demographics section, since they seem to be somewhat related. The text in both sections is really just restating information already presented in the tables, and nothing new is really covered, other than a relatively uninteresting prose listing of churches in the town. How does the population interrelate and how have demographics and/or religion changed over the years.
- Geography has no information on the climate.
- The pie chart under 'economy' doesn't really tell me anything without clicking on it to enlarge; and once I clicked on it, I didn't really get anything out of it that I hadn't read in the text in the economy section either. More information could be provided here about specific businesses and industries in the town, instead of just basic stats on the employment situation. How did these businesses develop and locate here?
- An external links section might be nice to include a link to the official website, or chamber of commerce/business site, tourism office, etc. Be careful not to include too many links though (see WP:EL).
These are the major issues with the article, although it could be incomplete. The article still has a good deal of development ahead of it, so it's impossible to predict every issue. I would recommend taking a look at the templates & guidelines for US/UK city articles at WikiProject Cities, as these will likely help the article's structure a lot. Good luck! - Thanks for the review. It'll give me lots to do at work when I should be working. Dommccas 21:48, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Umm
editIs it meant to say Sutton Bonington? on the weather table Victuallers (talk) 16:36, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, Thats the nearest Met weather station. Those figures are from the Met website. Theres also another station in Sheffield but its a little further away. Dommccas 16:47, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Including the weather table for a weather station which is ~ 14 miles away seems silly. 82.17.131.125 (talk) 17:31, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Layout
editNoticed this was a potential nominee for GA status and wondered if the project was aware of WP:UKCITIES to give them a nudge? Hope it helps, -- Jza84 · (talk) 02:17, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Religion; places of worship; churches
editThere is no sign of these in the Contents list though St Edmund's Church illustrates one section: there are probably External links further down but you need at least a paragraph or two in the article. (You can request GA recognition somewhere: then they will start assessing and negotiation so it could be complicated.)----Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 05:11, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Village?
editPlease see here for my thoughts regarding this article's inclusion in Category:Villages in Derbyshire. Thank you! Jellyman (talk) 00:25, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
