Can't see chess pieces in browsers
editIn my browsers (IE and Mozilla), I can't see the chess piece after "rather than by initials: for example". Is there a setting that allows me to see them? Bubba73
Missing symbols
editsome of the symbols are not displayable on my web browser. Also, i dont know what they are supposed to be. either the symbol names (or a description of the symbol) should accompany those that cannot be displayed, or we should include a) pictures of the symbols, or b) see if the LaTeX engine can faithfully produce them. --Whiteknight 6 July 2005 03:50 (UTC)
Think we can get this to GA status?
editI don't think it's too far off. Any suggestions for improvements before formally submitting it are welcome. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 02:02, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- Why not submit for A status instead? (Doesn't require GA first, and more feedback w/ be garnered.) My only hangnail w/ the article is secname "Similar notations". (To me that name seems "off"/not apt. All the notations listed rely on use of coordinates, and all the systems achieve the same obvious purpose. But other than those necessary commonalities, how is numeric notation "similar" to standard algebraic?!) I had the sec previously named "Kindred notations", which I still think is better, and perfectly good application of word 'kindred'. The notations are members of a "family" of notations, but "Related notations" is also off, they aren't related to each other, they just necessarily share purpose and reliance on coordinates. p.s. "Kindred notation systems" or "Kindred systems" w/ also be possible secname candidates. Thx for consider, --IHTS (talk) 03:58, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- Is A better than GA? Are the standards different? Who decides/reviews it? How does this stuff work? (Not much experience raising articles to GA status). MaxBrowne2 (talk) 05:27, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- This table explains some: WP:CLASSES. --IHTS (talk) 09:42, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- So "A" class is a way to avoid annoyimg questions in GA reviews? MaxBrowne2 (talk) 21:53, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

I'm wondering if we should just describe standard FIDE-style algebraic notation, then have a section called "variants" which would include things like different ways to show captures, different symbols etc. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 21:56, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
