It will be better to divide contemporary era into smaller segments: Pakistan-Afghan Relations(1947-1962), 1962 to Soviet Control afghanistan, Soviet Afghan Era, Soviet Leaving afghanistan and Pakistani Policy, Fall of Dr.Najeebullah's Government and Rise of Taliban Controlled Afghanistan, US WOT, Ashraf Ghani led Afghanistan and Pakistani Relationships.
