Change of article name to Acoustic (musical genre)
editThe article name should be changed to be more specific. -- Rmdl2006 (talk) 09:25, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Merge from MTV unplugged
editI don't think so, MTV Unplugged means quality live performances, eventhough its tempting to do so, but one is a genre and MTV Unplugged is more of a legacy. This is like saying all reality based TV show pages should be merged into the main reality show page.
I vote against the merger... RadicalSatDude 11:26, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I agree. Acoustic music is a very old tradition, and Unplugged was one ephemeral example of it.
I also vote against the merge. Catamorphism 19:12, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
While MTV Unplugged consists of acoustic music, it would make no sense to merge these pages. Acoustic music is a concept that's far greater than the scope of a single show on MTV. Per WP:BB, I've removed the proposed merger due to an utter lack of support. quadratic 03:13, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
- No you guys dont understand... MTV invented acoustic music. Before MTV, all music was played on Casio keyboards and digital samplers.
- Glad to see we still have some humour :). -- TimNelson 09:49, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Merge from Unplugged
editThe first merge suggested a merge with MTV unplugged, which I agree would not be appropriate. This merge suggested that the page Unplugged (note: not MTV unplugged) be made a section on this page, and that the Unplugged page link to the section here. This is more appropriate as "Unplugged" is a subset of acoustic music (assuming that we're including acoustic-electric). -- TimNelson 07:50, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have performed the merge and also included Acoustic instrument, since it was a three-sentence stub with largely the same content as this page. I'm not sure whether or not acoustic music in itself really constitutes a genre, hence the respective category and WikiProject have been replaced with their higher-level cousins for now. - Cyrus XIII 20:05, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- All sounds good to me :). -- TimNelson 05:24, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Acoustic rock
editI think this section should stay because the article is about acoustic music and acoustic rock just happens to be, acoustic music. --Thebluesharpdude (talk) 03:22, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't really see what this adds to the article. Is there a legitimate genre here or is this just a synonym for folk rock. Is "acoustic punk" just another term for anti-folk or some such thing. Find meaningful reliable sources or else you're just going on and on about neologisms. Perhaps, however, you could point out examples of genres like anti-folk that are based upon a return to acoustic insturments. Whatever you do, try to include sources. -MrFizyx (talk) 22:02, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Acoustic rock is is a genre with acoustic instruments (acoustic guitars, acoustic bass guitars) and Folk rock uses both acoustic and electric instruments. Acoustic punk uses acoustic instruments only unlike anti-folk. --Thebluesharpdude (talk) 04:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Then you should probably put it into an article of its own, as this article obviously deals more with instrumentation (as opposed to "genres" in the more typical sense). Plus I share MrFizyx's neologism/original research concerns. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 10:28, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Alright I guess I will put it into an article of it's own. --Thebluesharpdude (talk) 04:32, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
But when ever I put it into it's own article it's probably going to get a bunch of AFD's so never mind. --Thebluesharpdude (talk) 01:05, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Article referenced in government document
editQuoted verbatim actually, in an Autralian region's hearing regarding a noise ordanance. see item 15 of this pdf. Weird. -MrFizyx (talk) 05:31, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Life imitating art. It's a shame that public awareness of the basic concepts of Wikipedia (i.e. that the information in an article isn't really good for much, unless it's properly sourced) is still so limited. – Cyrus XIII (talk) 07:17, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Photo
editThis is the photo of a classical (not acoustic) guitar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.65.223.53 (talk) 10:52, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
The picture
editThe picture is the one of a classical not acoustic guitare. -RobertMel (talk) 04:59, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Revision
editUm......For future reference, a classical guitar is in fact an acoustic guitar. An acoustic instrument is any instrument that plays without the aide of electrical equipment and uses its body to produce a specific sound. Drums can be considered an acoustic instrument even. Reminder
editJust a reminder to all those who wanted to keep this article four months ago in the Afd discussion, and particularly those that indicated how it could be improved, that nothing has happened. It would be really great if someone could make a start, since the possibility for improvement was one of the major arguements for keeping it.--SabreBD (talk) 12:34, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
- Why you do not improve the article yoursef? I beleive that you are very well aware of its deficiencies, so you are very good person to do it. As a side note: this article helped me a lot today and althought is might possibly be improved, the deletion is not improvement at all. All the best. --Jakubt (talk) 19:00, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Consider this: Rules may not be adequate.
editThe purpose of Wikipedia is to help readers, not primarily to follow rules. Language is complicated; there are many ways in which English is badly designed. The rules designed for Wikipedia may not be adequate to cover all cases of human knowledge or all cases of human need for knowledge.
This Wikipedia article was very helpful to me. Please don't delete it. I sometimes manage music events, but I'm not a musician. It's likely I will need this article again to remind myself of what it says.
(I hope I have followed the rules of Wikipedia in making this comment. The rules are complicated, and I don't know all of them.) Futurepower(R) (talk) 19:13, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
I agree. This is a useful article, I just came to it by googling 'define accoustic set'. Why would you want to delete it? 87.113.174.159 (talk) 21:51, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
