Merge with fruit

edit

Wouldn't it be best to merge this with the fruit page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Treebearded (talkcontribs) 16:01, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

You could be right. I'll try to gather enough information to make it a larger article, but otherwise it probably should be merged. Cedarboy (talk) 14:53, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Apple

edit

An apple is not an accessory fruit. A quick look at the page for "pome" should clear this up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.82.118.110 (talk) 19:39, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I did look at the pome page, and it apparently says pomes are accessory fruits. You can also look at this fruit terminology page. Cedarboy (talk) 14:53, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
There is no one correct answer for that (I work on pomes). It is not entirely unreasonable to consider it an accessory fruit, but the fleshy part comes from a half-inferior ovary, so it isn't dramatically non-ovary tissue. I'd like to see the statement that pomes are accessory fruit de-emphasized through wikipedia, and will consider doing that myself in a few months if there are no objections.
