Inconsistency

The 6-foot-1, 200 pound (91 kg) Haynes

Another (published) source, which I can't hands on just now, says that when he was playing at North Texas, he was considered unathletically skinny, at 5' 10" & 160 lbs. (Great speed and reflexes, though, which balanced out his lack of size.) It's easy enough to put on weight -- but did he really grow another three inches after he was 19 years old? That seems unlikely.

Also, he's been retired a long time now. Anyone know what he's been up to the past few decades? --Michael K SmithTalk 13:48, 10 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

extra syllable? (etc.)

edit

I have listened to "quirkyresearch" item on youtube which has Abner Haynes saying "we will kick to the clock". Notice the extra syllable. Until today I have seen the contraction "we'll". Any comments? Should we change the quotation here on wikipedia? (This is in reference to coin toss at start of overtime in 1962 AFL Championship game.)

We then hear:

Official (in black hat): You're going to kick.

Haynes: Yeah.

Same official: To the clock.

Haynes: Right.

We see the same official stand alongside Haynes with both facing to our left, and that official gives the "kick" signal. I failed to notice choice being made, by the other team, of what goal to defend.

records retroactively part of NFL?

edit

OK, I see the comment about Haynes' entire pro career being in the AFL (i.e., before it merged with the NFL). I was just in the Mickey Vernon museum in Media, PA, and saw a retroactive NFL reference being used for the AFL for an AFL player from Delaware County (the county which includes Media).

If you are curious about the Mickey Vernon museum, its last day in that Media location was March 7, 2015. See Mickey Vernon page, including its talk page, for comments about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.63.16.47 (talk) 19:32, 11 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
