6teen Characters Nationalities (Anscentry)
edit- Umm...Where has it actually been confirmed what the 6teen characters anscentry is? Because, if I'm correct not too many (if any at all) have actually stated or revealed where their parents or they are from. UnDeRsCoRe 23:13, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Do you think we should give the main characters their own individua; article?
edit- I propose that the main characters, Jen, Nikki, Caitlin, Jude, Jonesy and Wyatt could have their own individual articles. And possibly secondary characters too. The character articles could go like this:
Character History, Personality, Friends and Family, Enemies and Rivals, Love Intrests/Life, Trivia, See Also, References, External Links. UnDeRsCoRe 23:46, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think that'd help... The article right now is getting quite large. It'd be a better idea, in my opinion, to have a brief paragraph for each character outlining the most important things about them, and then have a link to the character's main article. It'd help improve the look of the article. Good idea. :) --Matt0401 03:16, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. Well, I'll get started, first on Caitlin. Hopefully someone can help with the other articles. UnDeRsCoRe 03:46, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- First one done, Caitlin Cooke. I'd do the others, but it's like 1:00 in the morning right now. (I can't sleep). UnDeRsCoRe 05:01, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

- K. I was going to change Jonesy's section to summarize it and stuff (do to it what I did to Caitlin's) in the 6teen article right now, but someone has hijacked my IP and vandalised so I can't edit anything for a while. I'll have to do it after I get home from work in 5 hours. Good work, by the way.--Matt0401 14:02, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

- Regarding the Jude Lizowski article. It does not seem to fit the layout of the rest of the character articles, and needs to be re-worded, expanded, (and some info needs to be removed). Please someone do it, I would, but I have school and all, I don't have nearly enough time. I've done somethings though. UnDeRsCoRe 23:25, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of "Ron's Codename" from the bios
editI was wondering if the "Ron's Codename" is really needed for the characters profiles in this article. I mean, it's not really that significant. Ron only mentioned them in one episode, and even then it wasn't that large of a contribution to the episode. I think we should remove them. But I don't know if I should, unless I have other users consent. UnDeRsCoRe 02:37, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- I agree that they aren't very significant, but personally I think they're kinda neat to have... I'm not sure as to whether or not we should keep them. --Matt0401 23:43, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- Ditto to this. I think if a few more agree, one could simply change it themselves. Bsilver 16:11, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- No, the codenames don't have any significance, but their still funny. Why waste time worrying about them? Iamduffan (talk) 00:37, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Nikki's Ancestry
editWhoever keeps on changing her ancestry from Chinese, to Korea, to Japanese. Please stop. She is Chinese. The surname "Wong" is Cantonese Chinese. Meaning she IS of Chinese descent. For more information, please check here: [1] UnDeRsCoRe 01:01, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Best friends
editAt each profile it tells who their best friend is. How do you known this? It has never been verified. Isn't this assumed? If it is, it dosen't belong on Wikipedia. UnDeRsCoRe 02:41, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- That's true... I think the character summaries are quite good the way they were. This info recrntly being added is more like "extra" and doesn't belong in a "summary". --Matt0401 05:19, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
- I know. I think this page may need a small little cleanup. (Not a huge one like the whole escapade below) UnDeRsCoRe 02:28, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Serious clean-up proposal
editThis article is a mess. It constantly uses colloquialism, first or second person POV, and contains WAY WAY too much information, such as the little profiles underneath the main profile's for each character. So people, please do your best to avoid doing the things I mentioned, and maybe clean it up a bit too. Xubelox 03:58, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Alright, I've gone over it. Here are the changes I made:
Severely shortened character profiles. Really, we don't need long-winded paragraphs referring to specific episodes, nor do we need to know every person a character has dated.
Made it more NPOV; eliminated words and phrases such as "cool" and "freaks out".
Put an unverified claims tag on the trivia section. It really needs to be cited
Deleted the Canadian references. And if you wish to encourage discussion, add a [dubious – discuss]. Don't type out an invite.
Deleted pop culture references. There were just too many, and they didn't even refer to what episode or situation they were used in. (not that I'm encouraging them to be; it should just be left alone.
A few other minor edits.
It looks a lot better, but it could still use clean-up. Xubelox 04:19, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- What is left to be cleaned up?! You pretty much destroyed 75% of the article! You just don't suddenly go out of your way and delete HUGE portions of an article just because you happen to not like the fact that a very detailed article exists for the subject in particular! You're lucky I'm an easy-going guy and, despite you vandalizing our article, I'm going to allow the recent changes to go unreverted in the mean time while we wait for other input. Next time ask before doing this! --Matt0401 05:01, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
The navigation is now screwed up, editing to Jonesy is not working and the page needs serious remodelling, because it's hard to use right now- pics of characters are out of their descriptons, some sentences doesn't make sense and I can't edit them (see last sentence in Jonesy's profile- if he has two younger brothers, what the hell is the "he appears to be the oldest" also doing there?) Please, repair it ASAP, I don't have time right now, gotta go to work, but guys, please, before you make such major edits check up if the page still looks good and is not screwed. --Yogh 02:46, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
- Alright in that case I'm reverting the edits. Thanks for your input, Yogh. --Matt0401 03:22, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Canadian-related Hints - Trivia or Canadianism?
editSomeone moved my paragraph on how the show hints that it is Canadian-based and Canadian-produced to under the "Trivia" section. It was later added back into the "Canadianism" section. At the moment we have two paragraphs. The issue is where to put only one copy of the paragraph. Do people think we should have it under it's own "Canadianism" section, or under the "Trivia" section? I guess we'll go with a majority vote here... --Matt0401 22:31, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm watching an episode right now and Jonesy just said something akin to "We're in Canada, how can you not know how to skate?" so it's nationality is no longer "hinted". I dunno but I speculate that might have relation to how (according to the wiki page) the show is not currently aired in the US.
- It is Canadian-based. On one episode, number plate that looks similar to Ontario number plate appears. Kjinho213 (talk) 04:24, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
New Character Photos
editI decided to transition the article from the old photos (which were found on a fan forum without a reputable author and were unarguably copyrighted in some form) to new 100% fan-drawn images from 6teen.ca. These are copyright-free, which will help the article's reputation when it comes to using too many fair-use licenses (which the article used a lot of with the old photos) and in my opinion atleast, the new photos have a more professional look to them and make the article look more appealing. They are also made in flash and have never been through any JPEG filters, meaning they are 100% lossless and definitely look sharper and of higher quality. I am also adding photos of the minor characters to the appropriate pages. Any objections to my photo changes can be listed here. If some people don't like the changes we can revert them (though in my opinion they are better photos than the old ones). --Matt0401 17:23, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- They are great, and in my opinion, they are better than the old ones. But I remeber reading somewhere that it's not part of "Wikipedia picture thingy official" policy. If it's photoshoped, drawn, or non-official it dosen't qualify to be up in an article. But, what they hey, I'm sure Wikipedia won't notice, the pictures look extremely genuine and official. Good work! :D UnDeRsCoRe 02:42, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- On the contrary... I've seen a lot of self-made diagrams for tech subjects, and any photographs on here should be self-taken, to avoid copyright issues. I think that if the images in question are obviously high quality and serve their purpose well, whether or not they're self-made, they are worthy of being in a Wikipedia article. --Matt0401 22:46, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Jude's Picture
editI recently made an Article on Jude but it needs some pictures picture. Can some one please put it up. --User:Healthinspector 101 15:58, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- I gave it an infobox like the other characterss boxes. The article looks good so far! I think it'd be better, though, if you followed the template for headings and sections that the other character articles have to improve form. If you'd like, please make these changes to the article you created. Overall, though, good job! Looks like we're almost done revamping the character section and giving everybody their own article. :) --Matt0401 23:11, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Wyatt's Picture
editThanks for giving Jude his picture and the infobox, but can you also do the same thing you did for Jude for Wyatt please. --User:Healthinspector 101 19:40, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- Shouldn't you do that yourself? Anyway, I'd like to take the time to ask you to re-write the entire Jude and Wyatt article. They are not following the layout we agreed on. (see [2]) The information is also quite limited, sparse, disorginized, need I say more? So, please re write it. But, if you want to, you could leave it and I'll re write it myself once I get off of school tommorow (I can't do it now, I have a big test to study for right now.) Thank You for your contributions, though! Greatly appreaticated. UnDeRsCoRe 01:45, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Copy-Editing
editIn response to the tag added requesting copy-editing, I've taken the initiative to copy-edit two sections so far. However I don't have the time or patience to go through and analyse each and every piece of the article. I'd appreciate it if others took the time to help out in refining this article, particularily those who are interested in certain aspects (such as character descriptions) who won't grow tired of the refinement process. --Matt0401 21:22, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Have made some minor changes but it really needs someone who knows the show to go and fix up some of the sentences (see below) that don't really make sense. JenLouise 00:03, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- freaks out every time he hears country music, drinking four coffees a day, listening to white noise, and not sleeping for fear of having "the dream" ("The one where the cowboy thinks I ran off with his wife to the city and now he wants to kick my a.."). - he freaks out when he drinks four coffees a day? This needs to be split up into a couple of sentences.
- where his singing and serving has really got a lot of ladies the real attention Wyatt deserves. - the ladies get the attention Wyatt desrves? or Wyatt gets the attention he deserves from the ladies?
- Also in the past, Mike Dent, a rival skater of Jude, stole his cookies in kindergarten and he wants revenge - who wants revenge, Wyatt or Mike?
- As mentioned below, Caitlin is said to have both parents as doctor's but her dad works in a law firm. ??
- and dared to jump naked with a parachute - he dared someone else to jump naked, or was dared and did jump naked?
- Once she was a member of their group, but the others saved her from a life "where individuality is overrated". ' - the "others" presumably being the other main characters?
- is Nikki called Nikki in French?
- Congrats, people... the copy editing tag is gone! We've finally finished redoing the article's text and I must say it's quite professional-sounding now! :) Thanks go out to Bearly541 and Zghost for finishing up the copy editing. I really wasn't looking forward to getting into all those character paragraphs. :P --Matt0401 11:38, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Major editing made
editGuys, there's really no need to list EVERYTHING in one article about 6teen. The page already is huge and hard to navigate, so most information are lost becsue of huge block of text users must read. So I've tried to clean the mess and make this article a bit smaller.
Minor Characters of 6teen and Summary of 6teen episodes are now separate articles, to save some space on the main 6teen page on wikipedia. I'm thinking about shortening descriptions of recurring characters a bit, because they are too "insightful" and unecessary. It's not a fan-page guys, it's an encyclopedic article, at least it's supposed to be. Please, think about it before writing some more and please comment on the changes.--Yogh 13:28, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Merging
editI think it would really help if this was merged with 6teen. -Miss Kiss
- The article is 6teen... I don't see how merging something with itself is possible. :P --Matt0401 21:22, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- Miss Kiss was probably lost...seeing as how she doesnt know how to sign. This is a forum for discussion on the topic of 6teen. Bsilver 16:15, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
Something Odd
editI think there's an error for the Caitlin Cooke entry - The description of the character says "money came from the partners at her dad's law firm" and also says "She is an only child and both her parents are doctors." Is her dad a lawyer, a doctor or both? 70.91.243.49 03:49, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Introduction
editIs it just me or is the introduction to this article really long? I've never seen the show and I'm not Canadian, so I don't know how important this show is... but maybe someone feels like tightening the intro a bit? --Natalie 02:25, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I created a seperate section entitled "Canadianism" and moved a part of the introduction dealing with how the show relates to Canada to the new section. The starting of a new section also allows expanding of the paragraph originally placed in the introduction. --Matt0401 23:17, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Nikki Wong
editCan someone clarify who the "others" are in her opposable gang? --Bearly541 11:32, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Token!
editIs it just me or does this show tend to make its characters of various ancestries to go along with the brainwashing done by the Canadian government that Canada is the most multi-cultural country in the world. I've been to Edmonton, I saw maybe one black or hispanic person my whole time there.
I think it's just you. UnDeRsCoRe 01:55, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- Actually I have to sympathize with the guy/girl here... I live in Canada and my city is 98% white. --Matt0401 03:04, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- Well I live in Toronto and I have a variety of cultures in Toronto. (Although, I usually see more White and Chinese people) UnDeRsCoRe 12:56, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- While I find this section a tiny bit irrelevant, I'm going to put my two cents in. I live in Edmonton, we have an incredibly diverse population here, including Hispanic, Asian, East Indian, African people. The fact that you only saw "one black or hispanic person" whole time here doesn't mean anything. Canada may be mostly white, but that doesn't mean that our media is supposed to whitewwash all media. I think the producers do a good job representing the fact that there are so many different ethnic groups living together in Canada.Witchbaby 17:48, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. Canada may have a lot more "white people" (In reality they're called caucasian formally) but that does not mean we don't have a variety of cultures. We have Pakistan, Cuban, Philipino, Chinese, Japanese, etc. And I think the reason there are alot of nationalities in the show is so people don't whine that they're being racist by only having white, black, or another culture. UnDeRsCoRe 14:17, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
My only complaint with it is that it's pretty unlikely in Canada for so many different cultures to be hanging out by chance. Not that it's impossible it's just Canada, despite what your government tells you, isn't verry diverse at all especialy in comparison to most the United States. I have no problem with it, I just think it's forced in so they seem more PC. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.118.79.137 (talk • contribs).
I grew up and still live in the Toronto area it's ignorant to say that the area isn't multicultural. The rural areas are mostly white, but major cities are very diverse. And what's with this whole idea that the government is forcing this PC show on Canadians. The only involvement the government has would be as censors, but beyond that they don't care what the show has in it.
I've become a bit more smarter than to believe everything my government tells me. i agree with your point, it isn't possible all these cultures pop out all together. But, meh, happens to me. UnDeRsCoRe 21:08, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- I think all y'all are crazy. I mean. when I was in high school all my friends had different ethnic backgrounds. Rachel was American, Stephen was German, Carlo was Italian, my grandparents were from the UK, and Saleem was from england. I'm not saying that all cliques are naturally diverse but the idea that diversity is an impossible illusion is just this side of racist.
- Alternatively, if you still think Canada is "The Great White North", well that does make sense. I mean we do have a lot of honkies about. Because all our token kids are hanging out in hip groups having wacky sitcomian misadventures.
I'm a proud Canadian and the city where I live in is culturally diverse. I am an Asian-Canadian (my parents were originally from Asia, I was born in Canada). The suburb I live in is populated with many etnicities , Asians, Blacks,Whites,Hispanics and others. Sure, most of the population is white, but there are many origins that are clearly visible. I am also aware of the fact that some cities are mostly white, but hey, that's just the way it is. All in all, I agree with the the previous person-- not all groups are cultually diverse, but diversity does exist! But the goverment is lying to us by saying diversity is the most common thing in Canada...DebbieLin 06:12, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
As much as Canadians don't like to admit it, when it comes to racial make-up, it's just like the U.S. The bigger cities have more diversity, and the smaller towns are predominantly white. --Chaz (talk) 20:34, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
It's just you, first off, the cartoon is made by an independent company, not the government, secondly, the show is set in Toronto, which is full of various ethnicities, variety you hardly see in most of Alberta. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.226.60.125 (talk) 18:12, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey, in my high school (about 1,000 kids), I remember one black family, one hispanic family, one Chinese family (they opened up a Chinese restaurant), and one Thai family. Everybody else was White as Snow. (Well, there may have been two or three African-Americans, but still. Not diverse at all.)Masternachos (talk) 04:42, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
Zamboni, not Zambonie, and other problems
edit- Please, be careful with spelling errors.
- Do not add your own bias...I had to remove a lot of it
- Use formal words. This is an encyclopedia.
- Also, could someone expand on Nikki Wong? She has very little information about her, even though she is a major character. I myself am too lazy to do research on her...sorry.

editMany things are repeated, or copied off of web sites...please do your best at removing some of these errors. Also, seeing as the show is no longer a part of Nick's shows, this alliance should be removed. Bsilver 23:32, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Update: I might as well clean all this up Bsilver 21:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
- If you are still at it. The description of the characters don't mention by whom they are voiced. That's a bad idea. remove that info from the infobox and put it in the character descriptions. (remember wikipedia looks at the characters from the real world, not from the fictional work WP:WAF) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TheDJ (talk • contribs) 05:05, 14 March 2007 (UTC).
"Racial Stereotypes"?
edit"and commonly employs cultural and racial stereotypes."
Okay, what? I'm a pretty regular watcher of 6teen and I've rarely seen any of the writing use racial stereotypes. Where Wyatt would ordinarily be the token black guy, he has none of the stereotypes attached. Neither does Nikki for having an Asian background. I also haven't seen many jokes that use that sort of humour. Plenty of fart jokes and whatever else not, but racism seems pretty absent. Anyone care to clear this up? -- Hidoshi 13:02, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Reception - Did a kid write this?
editWhat is the deal with the last paragraph of the "Reception" section. Reads like it was written by someone for their 5th grade book report. Do they know what the term "glass ceiling" actually means or did they hear a grown-up say it. There's not a single citation and it is not NPOV. I think the section starting with "Like other television shows..." and ending with "...to the preteen crowd." could easily be taken right out. Thoughts? pjh3000 (talk) 01:14, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Complete 1st season
editIs there a reason why there Complete 1st Season DVD only contains 13 episodes as opposed to the 26 episodes listed in the Episodes section? That would mean 1)the Episode List is wrong or 2)the publisher decided it was due time to rip us off. Either way I believe there should be an explanation written to avoid any confusion.
- I think 6teen's DVD distributors realized that they made a mistake in calling the 13-episode first collection The Complete First Season when there were really 26 episodes in Season One, so they're calling the second collection (episodes 14 to 26 of S1) the Special Yearbook Edition as a supplement to the first one. I remember an episode of both 6teen and Seinfeld in which one girl in 6teen gave a fake number on a punch card, then gave the fake number a fake number to call her and waited by that phone to get it back, just like in The Strike episode of Seinfeld. - It would only be TV-14 if it were on Adult Swim or another teenage network Matthew Cantrell (talk) 11:01, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Contradiction on episodes shown on Cartoon Network
editThis article has a contradiction regarding what was shown on Cartoon Network:
- On October 23, 2008, Cartoon Network premiered 6teen and the series aired its full run until June 21, 2010.
But in another paragraph:
- In the U.S., Cartoon Network only aired 67 episodes, leaving 26 unaired due to content reasons.
Which is correct? -- azumanga (talk) 20:37, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Adult Swim?
editSince when does Adult Swim air this series? It'd be nice if they did because CN treated the show so badly censoring almost if not every episode they aired Matthew Cantrell (talk) 02:23, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
- Adult Swim does not air 6teen. That claim was put there by a wishful-thinking poster who wants the show to be on that channel, so he put it there to try to fool others. Creativity-II (talk) 02:56, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Who reverted my entire edit?
editI understand more sources are needed to back up the content added, but whoever is responsible for this removal, please do not revert my entire edit again. I spent a lot of time on this making the section sound more appropriate for wikipedia. Ive removed the unsourced content and have added back the content that did not need to be removed. - @Fantastic lion37: - I believe the section read better previously, and ref links shouldn't be bare links - see WP:BAREURLS. Explanatory footnotes also aren't the same as references, and Wikipedia shouldn't be used as a reference per WP:CIRCULAR. Waxworker (talk) 13:26, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- In Wikipedia, it's unprofessional to begin a new section with numbers, to which I have changed. Legalization of same sex marriage occurred in Canada in 2005, during the same time as the show's release. I changed the wording regarding that part as it did not sound professional/adhere to the professionalism standards for Wikipedia. Do not interfere. Thank you. - I am not talking about references or unsourced material at this point. I am talking about the wording of this section, how it did not sound professional/adhere to the standards of Wikipedia, and thus I have edited such to fix this issue. Any further changes regarding this area will be reverted. Fantastic lion37 (talk) 14:05, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
