Merger proposal

I propose to merge 11th Critics' Choice Television Awards into 26th Critics' Choice Awards. The awards show this year is again a combined television and film one, and there is no such "11th Critics' Choice Television Awards". All three references at 11th Critics' Choice Television Awards refer to the 26th Critics Choice Awards. The article currently states "The ceremony will be broadcast on The CW, alongside the television awards", which makes it seem like two ceremonies are happening simultaneously, but the reality is that it is just one ceremony at one venue with one host (Taye Diggs). 188.148.229.11 (talk) 19:58, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

I do not see how merging the two articles will be beneficial or sensical. Every single Critics' Choice Awards article has been separated into TV and film, and for this specific ceremony, there is even more of a reason to keep them separate. The eligibility periods are different, the nominations were announced a month apart and the number of submissions are vastly different. There are also the studios that only produce television (such as HBO) and the studios that only produce films (such as A24). Not to mention that merging the two articles would make it overlong to readers. As for the phrasing issue, that's how it's been phrased on every Critics' Choice Awards article thus far. That can easily be changed to; "the ceremony for the film and television awards will be broadcast on The CW". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajack15 (talk • contribs) 23:49, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

This issue is tricky, and it spans more than just this year's ceremony. The Critics' Choice TV Awards were originally presented in the summer to align with the end of television seasons; starting in 2016, they were merged with the Critics' Choice Film Awards at the end of the calendar year. From a quick Google search, there is no longer such a thing as the "11th Critics' Choice Television Awards" from what I can tell; it is just the 26th Critics' Choice Awards, encompassing film and television.

When they started, it made sense to have them as separate articles given the separate ceremonies, but now that they're being presented together, they're more like the Satellite Awards or Golden Globe Awards – joint TV/film awards ceremonies. Those ceremonies have no issues presenting both sets of awards in the same page; they aren't "overlong" because of it. I could easily see every TV ceremony from 2016 onward being merged with the respective film ceremony; if both sets of awards had been presented at the same ceremony from the start, this is almost certainly what would have happened. On the other hand, since those initial TV ceremonies should probably remain separate, it might be confusing to list a few years of TV awards separately and then include the rest with the film awards. I think we may need to have a wider discussion about this, since it would affect a half-dozen years' worth of articles, so I'm going to link this discussion at WT:TV. Yeah, there is no such thing as the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th or 11th Critics Choice Television Awards. Wikipedia should not be making things up. The normal Critics Choice Awards were rebranded as the Critics' Choice Movie Awards for a few years, but that ended when they switched to a combined ceremony. Speaking of rebranding, they have dropped the apostrophe, so this article needs to be moved to "26th Critics Choice Awards". –thedemonhog talk • edits 22:35, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Critics Choice Association themselves called their 2022 TV awards "27th" and not "12th" awards. We have to merge these documents NOW! Philip J Kim (talk) 14:22, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
