Teams and Riders
editWhat is the purpose of having the list of teams and drivers for 2017 in 2018 article? They should be listed only when confirmed.Rpo.castro (talk) 09:50, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- All those riders are under contract for 2018, sure that might change but asof now this is the best information available.86.11.54.30 (talk) 18:40, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Miller has a GP18 for next year
- That needs a source. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 02:27, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

Esteve Rabat at Silverstone
editWould it be better if his result for the race would be something different as he was not going to start even if the race had taken place. I can see Isaac Vinales having DNS in Moto2 which would be more logical. BleuDXXXIV (talk) 19:16, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
Teams' standings table: Stefan Bradl and Michele Pirro
editI notice that in the above table,
(a) Rider #6 Stefan Bradl's two appearances as Wildcard rider for the Repsol Honda Team, in Rounds 10 and 13, are not included. Even though he Retired in both races, I suggest that for consistency these should be shown, Cf point (b);
(b) In the same table, #51 Michele Pirro's Retirement as Replacement rider for the Ducati Team in Round 18 is shown – as his row's sole entry, but he was also entered as Wildcard rider for them in Rounds 6, 13 and 19, resulting in DNS, 15th and 4th respectively. I'm not very practiced with Wikitables, so I'd be grateful if someone could confirm (or refute) these facts and make any necessary amendments, which in Pirro's case may affect some points totals. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.200.131.235 (talk) 21:21, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- Team points do not include points from wildcard riders. The reason why Pirro's Round 18 result was included is because he was entered as a replacement rider for Lorenzo, not as a wildcard rider. So wildcard riders can score points for themselves but not for their respective teams. Babymissfortune 01:02, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's the same thing I assumed. Though, it must say that there is no explanation in the article as to why replacement and wildcard riders are highlighted with a special color, nor to the blue color in the riders' standings, and what these terms mean. That should be addressed since this is a general purpose encyclopedia and we cannot assume that our readers will know beforehand.Tvx1 13:03, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
- There's actually a key for what those special colors mean. It is placed beside the tables and readers could find it if they would just be observant. Babymissfortune 04:00, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
- It explains the colors, but not what these terms mean and why they have to be highlighted in the first place.Tvx1 06:29, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

- "Replacement" rider — self-explanatory. I think the highlight is not needed if the wildcard highlight is already there. If both highlights would be removed, it could cause confusion when a wildcard rider raced. This would lead on three riders being shown as riders for one team in a round, and without the green highlight (wildcard), readers could misinterpret it as if three riders could now score points for their team, and they could judge it as an unfair advantage for that said team because they have three but the rest have two.
- "Wildcard" rider — There is an explanation at Wild card (sports)#Motorcycle racing, but I don't think it would be better if we add the explanation itself in every season's article. The word "Wildcard" could be wikilinked to the aforementioned article, though. About the highlight, I think it is needed as I explained above.
- "Rookie" rider — self-explanatory. I think it is needed because the Rookie of the Year award is given each year to, of course, the rookie who scored most points, and it would be easier for the readers to know on which rookie rider ranks among other rookies.

- I support wikilinking Wilcard Rider, but the page you referred to contains a rather poor explanation. It only lists when such riders can be entered, but does not explain what's special about a Wilcard Rider and which championships they are limited to score for. Moreover, the section is inadequately sourced. If there is no special status with regards to replacement riders to the championships then I think that highlighting should be removed. Lastly, the style of highlighting is not compliant with the accessibility guidelines, particularly MOS:COLOR. Tvx1 14:24, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
