League table

edit

Hi.

We had/have a recent discussion at The Village Pump (feel free to join) where the editors modified the sandbox of {{2013–14 Premier League table/sandbox}} to have a truncated transclusion of the table for use on the pages for the current season of all the teams. This has also been informed at WT:FOOTY to get people to join the discussion at village pump. This template is then supposed to be used on all of the season articles. Fixtures

edit

We should not list or mention more than one fixture according to copywright laws. This could be read for instance here and has been mentioned on WT:FOOTY at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Archive 82#La Liga fixtures copyright? recently. You can also look at the bottom at other clubs season articles which have a note to not list fixtures. QED237 (talk) 15:39, 19 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

I can see why people are suspicious of the Premier League's right to license their fixtures when there have been several court cases regarding this matter. Plus Wikipedia abides by US law, which I believe does not allow for sporting schedules to be copyrighted. However, Football DataCo, the company that licenses the fixtures for the Premier League, Football League and Scottish leagues in the UK, would be well within their rights to take Wikipedia to court over the overuse of fixtures here. We are a free encyclopaedia, which means we cannot afford to pay for the license; it also means we definitely cannot afford to pay legal fees if Football DataCo decides to sue us over the use of the fixtures. If you want Wikipedia to be sued and then have to be taken down over non-payment of legal fees, be my guest and post the fixtures, but I advise against it. – PeeJay 17:19, 19 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
