"The reason the name Eva was chosen remains unknown"

edit

Well, unknown perhaps, but hardly unsuspected. Schmadel also quotes Littrow (1878) about this name: "Mit dem Namen könnten wir wie bei Miriam wieder den biblischen Boden zu betreten glauben, wenn wir bei diesem Entdecker nicht an Taufen weltlichen Ursprungs gewöhnt wären." [With this name we could believe that, as for Miriam, we are reentering Biblical grounds, if we were not used to baptisms of worldly origins from this discoverer.] (Yes, I used the brain prosthesis of Google Translate, but I edited the translation a bit.) Regarding 159 Aemilia, also discovered by P. P. Henry, he wrote "Mit dem Namen begegnet man auf mythologischen Gebiete nur einer Dienerin der Vesta, die vom Paten wohl kaum gemeint war." [With this name we find in mythological areas only one servant of Vesta, which was hardly what the godfather meant.] Incidentally this is also the first minor planet name whose meaning is unknown.
