Steve Ekpenisi (born 13 August 1978) popularly known as The Iron Bender is a Nigerian sculptor.[1]
Early life and career
editSteve Ekpenisi was born in Abavo, Ika south local government of Delta State, Nigeria. He began exploring art at the age of 5. He attended his primary education in Nkwo Primary School, Udomi, Abavo and post primary in St. Charles College, Abavo. He obtained a National Diploma (ND) in Painting and General Arts, as well as a Higher National Diploma in Sculpture from Auchi Polytechnic in 2003 and 2008 respectively.[2]
Steve started his sculpting career by using discarded metals.[3] He majorly works with rods, stainless steel, and shredded mild steel sheets that he combines with other elements of choice to create metal sculptures and his works are influenced by socio-economic and political realities, rich traditions and diverse beauty.[4][5]
Steve has participated in several group exhibitions and created several sculpture monuments in Nigeria and abroad.[6]
