History
editSettlers began arriving in the area at the end of 1935. They came mainly from Priceville, Saint-Fabien, Sainte-Flavie, Saint-François-Xavier-des-Hauteurs and Saint-Simon-de-la-Baie-Ha! Ha!. A Catholic service was opened in 1937 and the first parish priest was appointed. The parish of Saint-Charles-Garnier was canonically erected in 1954. The municipality was officially created in 1966 and took the same name as the church.[1]
Demographics
editIn the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Saint-Charles-Garnier had a population of 222 living in 110 of its 151 total private dwellings, a change of -7.5% from its 2016 population of 240. With a land area of 84.79 km2 (32.74 sq mi), it had a population density of 2.6/km2 (6.8/sq mi) in 2021.[4]
