- January 18, 1532 - Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro founded the city of Lima, the capital of Peru, with the name Ciudad de los Reyes (City of the Kings).
- January 26, 1995 - Start of the Cenepa War, the third war in the territorial dispute between Peru and Ecuador in the 20th century.
- February 12, 1903 - Historian Jorge Basadre author of Historia de la República (History of the Republic) is born.
- February 12, 1939 - At the South American Championship the national football team wins its first Copa América.
- February 14, 2009 - The Milk of Sorrow, a film by Claudia Llosa wins a Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival.
- February 25, 1825 - The Coat of arms is adopted as national symbolic emblem of Peru.
- February 28, 1995 - End of the Cenepa War, the third war in the territorial dispute between Peru and Ecuador in the 20th century.
- March 16, 1892 - César Vallejo, the most important Peruvian poet, is born in Santiago de Chuco.
- March 19, 1742 - José Gabriel Túpac Amaru Túpac Amaru II, leader of an indigenous uprising in 1780 against the Spanish in Peru, is born.
- March 28, 1936 - Writer, politician, journalist and essayist Mario Vargas Llosa representing the Latin American Boom is born.
- March 31, 1950 - The National Flag is adopted in its present form by removing the Coat of Arms from the center of the flag.
- April 3, 1983 - The Lucanamarca massacre took place in which 69 peasants were killed by the Shining Path organization in and around the town of Lucanamarca.
- April 12, 1671 - Pope Clement IX canonized Rose of Lima, making her the first Roman Catholic saint in the Western Hemisphere.
- April 22, 1997 - The Japanese embassy hostage crisis ended when Peruvian armed forces raided the official residence of Japan's ambassador to Peru in Lima and killed all Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) militants.
- April 26, 1538 - Two rival Spanish military forces engaged in the Battle of Las Salinas near Cusco. Pizarro's forces defeated those of rival conquistador Diego de Almagro.
- April 28, 1947 - Thor Heyerdahl set sail from Peru with his ship the Kon-Tiki to finally reach the Tuamotu Archipelago after 101 days and 4,300 miles at sea.
- April 30, 1932 - Start of the Colombia–Peru War an armed conflict with Colombia concerning a long-standing border dispute in the Amazonas region.
- May 2, 1866 - In the Battle of Callao during the Chincha Islands War a Spanish Fleet took on an alliance of Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador.
- May 12, 1551 - King Charles I of Spain charts by decree the National University of San Marcos making it the oldest university in the Americas.
- May 15, 1544 - Blasco Núñez Vela entered Lima, the capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru, as the first of forty viceroys designated by the Spanish Crown.
- May 20, 1929 - The Peruvian Air Force was created by merging the aviation divisions of the Army and the Navy.
- May 26, 1880 - In the Battle of Tacna the alliance between Bolivia and Peru is broken by the Chilean General Manuel Baquedano near the city of Tacna..
- June 7, 1880 - In the Battle of Arica the city Arica and the whole Tarapacá Region were lost to Chile after the defeat of the Peruvian Army led by Col. Francisco Bolognesi.
- June 14, 1894 - The journalist and political philosopher José Carlos Mariátegui La Chira was born in Moquegua.
- June 28, 2006 - The United States – Peru Trade Promotion Agreement (Spanish: Tratado de Libre Comercio Perú – Estados Unidos) a bilateral free trade agreement was ratified by the Peruvian Congress.
- July 21, 1552 - Viceroy Antonio de Mendoza dies and is buried in the Cathedral of Lima.
- July 24, 1911 - Hiram Bingham rediscovers Machu Picchu.
- July 27, 1995 - A new unicameral 90-seat Congress was created.
- July 28, 1821 - General José de San Martín proclaimed the independence of Peru during the Peruvian War of Independence.
- August 7, 1924 - At the National University of San Marcos, the most successful football team Universitario de Deportes was founded. Since 2000 the home games are played in the Estadio Monumental "U" stadium.
- August 9, 1970 - Flight LANSA 502 crashes en route from Lima to Cusco killing all but one of the 100 crew and passengers on board.
- August 15, 2007 - A major earthquake originating off the coast of Peru destroys the city of Pisco.
- August 17, 1850 - José de San Martín first Protector of Peru died aged 72 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France.
- August 23, 1922 - The Peruvian Football Federation is founded.
- September 8, 1995 - Anthropologist Johan Reinhard discovers the mummy Juanita near the summit of the volcano Ampato.
- September 12, 1982 - The FIVB Women's World Championship Volleyball started in Lima.
- September 15, 2007 - The Carancas impact event occurred when a large chondritic meteorite crashed near the village of Carancas.
- September 23, 1821 - The National Anthem was first performed publicly in the Theater of Lima after a contest issued earlier that year by José de San Martín.
- October 2, 1996 - Flight Aeroperú 603 crashes off the coast of Lima killing all crew members and passengers on board.
- October 5, 1885 - Medical student Daniel Alcides Carrión dies of self-inflicted Carrion's disease in an experiment to cure the disease.
- October 8, 1879 - Naval officer Miguel Grau was killed in the Naval Battle of Angamos during the War of the Pacific with Chile.
- October 22, 1570 - Viceroy Francisco de Toledo started a five-year visit of the Viceroyalty of Peru during which he implemented far-reaching reforms.

- November 16, 1532 - During the Spanish conquest of Peru, a group of Spaniards led by Francisco Pizarro captured the Inca Emperor Atahualpa at the Battle of Cajamarca.
- November 18, 1780 - The Battle of Sangarará was fought during the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire between rebel forces under Túpac Amaru II and Spanish colonial forces.
- November 20, 2002 - Decentralization through the Regions of Peru was put into effect by elections for their regional governments.
- November 25, 1975 - Operation Condor (Spanish: Operación Cóndor) a campaign of political repressions involving assassination and intelligence operations was implemented.
- December 4, 1991 - The Andean Trade Preference Act (ATPA), a trade preference system eliminating tariffs on a number of products was enacted.
- December 9, 1824 - Commander Antonio José de Sucre won the decisive military encounter with Spain in the Battle of Ayacucho to seal the independence of Peru and South America.
