Mikaela Madison Rosberg (born 1999)[1] is an American actress. She began her career by portraying a sullen teenager in the FX comedy series Better Things from 2016 to 2022. She then played Manson Family follower Susan Atkins in Quentin Tarantino's period drama film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) and Amber Freeman in the horror film Scream (2022). Madison had her career breakthrough when she received acclaim for playing the title role of a stripper in Sean Baker's romantic dramedy Anora (2024).

Life
editMadison is from Los Angeles, California, and grew up in the San Fernando Valley.[1] Her parents are both psychologists, and she has two brothers (one of whom is her twin) and two sisters.[2][3] She is Jewish.[1] Madison initially trained as a competitive horseback rider before switching to acting at age 14. She was homeschooled.[1]
As of October 2024, Madison lives in the Laurel Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles.[4]
Career
editMadison made her acting debut in 2013.[5] She appeared in numerous short films, including Retirement (2013), Pani's Box (2013), and Bound for Greatness (2014). In 2014, she starred in her first feature film, Liza, Liza, Skies Are Grey, at age 15, although the film was not released until 2017.[6]
In 2016, Madison began a starring role as Max Fox in the FX comedy-drama series Better Things created by Louis C.K. and Pamela Adlon, which ran from 2016 to 2022.[7][8] From 2017 to 2018, she guest starred in the Bravo dark comedy series Imposters.[9]
Madison returned to feature films in 2018, when she appeared in the drama films Monster and Nostalgia. She earned further recognition for her role as the Manson Family member Susan "Sadie" Atkins in Quentin Tarantino's comedy-drama film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).[10][11] She also voiced the character Candi the Barista in the animated black comedy film The Addams Family, which was released in October 2019. Madison was cast as Amber Freeman in the fifth Scream film, which was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.[12] The film was released in January 2022.[13][14]
Sean Baker cast Madison in the title role of a sex worker in Anora (2024) after watching Madison's performances in Scream and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.[4] Madison studied Russian for the role and performed her own stunts, including two fight scenes.[15][1] Anora premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival[16][17] and won the Palme d'Or.[18][19]
