Please change the text of this interface page from "create pages" to "create this page" to make it more fluent. It currently displays as "You do not have permission to create pages, for the following reasons:" when applied to MediaWiki:Permissionserrorstext-withaction. This change will make it display as "You do not have permission to create this page, for the following reasons:" which reads better. Thank you for your consideration of this. - This message is potentially used in other locations than that, and it would make it incorrect in the rest of the locations. There's already a ticket in Bugzilla to get this fixed properly. Jackmcbarn (talk) 21:44, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- I see. I'm surprised there was no notice on this page of that VPT discussion or the Bugzilla ticket before now. What if we change the content to "
{{#ifexist:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|create pages|{{#ifeq:{{PROTECTIONLEVEL:edit|{{FULLPAGENAME}}}}|sysop|create this page}}}}
" so that only pages that do not exist but are sysop protected (implicitly create protected) show "create this page" yet it shouldn't effect non-bluelock pages? Technical 13 (talk) 22:53, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Not done: I'm not sure that this message allows expansion of wikitext, so we might be out of luck there. I think it would be best to solve this in MediaWiki rather than making a quick fix here. — Mr. Stradivarius ♪ talk ♪ 23:34, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Mr. Stradivarius, I've also made the suggestion on the Bugzilla ticket itself... Let me go test on testwiki and see what happens. If it does work, I'll reactivate the request, if not, I'll just leave a note showing that result as well. Technical 13 (talk) 23:42, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- Mr. Stradivarius, as promised, I tested this on testwiki: (https://test.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Action-createpage&action=history) and
{{#ifeq:{{PROTECTIONLEVEL:create|{{FULLPAGENAME}}}}|sysop|create this page|create pages}}
does indeed work (you can see it in action on https://test.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=This_is_just_a_test&action=edit) if you view it logged out. I've reactivated this request based on this information (and have updated bugzilla mentioning this works). Thanks! Technical 13 (talk) 00:35, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
- Rather than hacking something together here, how about I just get it fixed in MediaWiki? Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:23, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

I'm sure no-one including myself would object to that, but I would like to see yhe hack applied until that patch is accepted and deployed live which will likely take no less than 2-4 weeks. Is that reasonable and acceptable to everyone? Technical 13 (talk) 03:34, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
