editMayo Creek rises about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) west of Allensville, North Carolina, and then flows generally north into Halifax County, Virginia to join the Hyco River about 1 mile (1.6 km) north-northeast of Mayo.[2]

editMayo Creek drains 60.95 square miles (157.9 km2) of area, receives about 46.3 inches per year (118 cm/year) of precipitation, has a wetness index of 448.38, and is about 55% forested.[4]
