editThis temple is one of the Sapta Sthana Shiva temples in Mylapore area (one of the seven sacred Shiva temples in Mylapore).[1] They are:
- Karaneeswarar Temple
- Tirttapaleeswarar Temple
- Velleeswarar Temple
- Virupakshiswarar Temple
- Valeeswarar Temple
- Malleeswarar Temple
- Kapaleeshwarar Temple
In addition to these "Sapta Sthana Shiva sthalas", the Ekambareshwarar–Valluvar temple in the neighbourhood is traditionally considered the indispensable eighth.[2]
Presiding deity
editThe presiding deity is known as Malleeswarar. The goddess is known as Marakatambikai.[1] As there is more number of Jasmine trees the presiding deity is known as Malleeswarar.[3]
Opening time
editThe temple located at the rear side of Karaneeswarar Temple. It is opened for worship from 6.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m and 4.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.[1]
