Description
English: 1747 miniature portrait of John Tennant(1722-1790) of Chapel House in the parish of Kilnsey, Yorkshire, aged 25, Barrister of the Middle Temple. (Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry, 15th Edition, ed. Pirie-Gordon, H., London, 1937, pp.2217-8, pedigree of Tennant of Chapel House). Admitted to St. John's College, Cambridge in 1739 and was called to the Middle Temple in 1745, where he is recorded as Master of the Bench in 1779. He was buried at Conistone in Yorkshire in 1790. (Catalogue entry Ellison Fine Art, London, UK) 4.30cm high in a gold frame, the reverse engraved with the Tennant coat of arms (see File:Arms JohnTennant (1722-1790) ofChapelHouse KilnseyYorks.xcf).
