History
editUpenmen is a word coined from Ukpoba, a Hill at the outskirts of Benin City ( Edo[7], as called in the past) where the first Olupenmen Okpameh Ajatomusi migrated from. Olupenmen Okpameh was the son to an Oba of Benin who was settled in Ukpoba to protect his life from the heir apparent to the Benin throne. Olupenme Okpameh left Ukpoba with his Family and slaves after beheading one of the emissaries sent by his father with the Gift of Beads and other royal regalia disguised inside a calabash. He settled in the present day after Upenmen after not feeling safe in Ekpoma first, then Ekpinmi.
