The Snot Rocket Podcast is a weekly podcast that can be found on Spotify, Anchor and RSS.
The podcast is hosted by friends Tommy Neesen and Andrew Hoffer. They self-describe the podcast as, “A running podcast about serious running from two guys who don’t take anything seriously.”[1] Episodes have explored the prevalence of drugs in running, the evolution of running shoes, coaching styles, the Olympic trials, the Olympics, the New York City Marathon, The Boston Marathon (a.k.a. Snob Trot), The Shamrock Run, beer miles, and various running related movie reviews.
Premise Episodes explore nearly any topic that can be related back to running, though the focus tends to be on distance running with an emphasis on marathons. While the podcasters claim not to take anything seriously and they aim not to educate the listener, they do at times offer up valuable information on biomechanics, training, and running history. Drinking beer while recording the podcast is a running theme, no pun intended. Listeners intermittently donate beer to the duo which they happily plug and drink, unless it happens to be a stout, or has zero alcohol content.
The duo does have some credibility in the running field as between them they have completed and paced dozens of marathons among other accomplishments. To his credit Andrew Hoffer does come prepared to the show with notes, articles, and references. Tommy Neeson spends most of the show undermining the flow and finding ways to work drugs into the conversation.
Hosts Andrew Hoffer Originally from Pennsylvania, Andrew Hoffer[2] is a veteran of the United Sates Navy, has served as a school administrator in various capacities, and has failed in prior podcasting attempts. Andrew’s voice impersonations include Donald Trump, Canadians, and a reporter in the style of a 1930’s tele-type reader. Andrew is also the proud owner of two Boston jackets. Tommy Neeson Tommy Neeson is originally from Yorktown Heights, NY. He is the author of the book Four Million Steps: From Maine to Florida and the Memories In Between[3]. He has raced everything from a 400 up through a 24-hour run, completed over 50 marathons with a PR of 2:35 at Shamrock.[4] Tommy has paced marathons all over the country including pacing a half marathon in Hamilton, OT. Notable pacing gigs are: NYC, Marine Corps and Grandma's. Nobody likes Tommy.
History The first episode of The Snot Rocket Podcast aired on June 11, 2023.
