Ron Evans is a British convicted murderer and sex offender. He was convicted of the murder of Kathleen Heathcote in 1964 and multiple sexual assaults in Bristol.
Early life and crimes
editIn 1964, at the age of 22, Evans was convicted of the sexually motivated murder of 21-year-old Kathleen Heathcote. Bristol sex attacks:
After being released from prison in 1975, Evans moved to Bristol and committed a series of sexual assaults between 1977 and 1979. Between 1977 and 1979, a series of sexual assaults terrorized the Clifton, Redland, and Westbury Park neighbourhoods of Bristol. Public outcry prompted Avon and Somerset Police to initiate an undercover operation in January 1979. This operation involved deploying young female and male officers as decoys to lure the assailant. In March of 1979, Police Officer Michelle Leonard became a victim when she was attacked by the perpetrator, who threatened her life. Subsequent investigations revealed that the attacker was Ron Evans, who ultimately confessed to five sexual assaults.
He was subsequently convicted and imprisoned for an additional 39 years.
Recent conviction
editIn July 2022, while on license, Evans sexually assaulted a woman he had befriended at a community centre in Wembley, London. He was found guilty of this offence in November 2023 and sentenced to another four years in prison.
Public concern and parole board decision
editEvans' release from prison in 2018 and subsequent crimes have raised concerns about the parole board's decision-making process. In his recent sentencing hearing, the judge expressed doubts about his rehabilitation and the risk he poses to the public[1][2]
