Public.com is an American financial services company headquartered in New York City, New York[1]. It was founded in 2019 by Jannick Malling and Leif Abraham.[2] The company develops a mobile and web investing platform that offers a commission-free environment for its users to invest in stocks, ETFs, crypto, US treasuries and bonds.
Generally referred to as Public, the product was launched in 2019 after early funding and development. Public is a venture-backed private company that has raised $310 million to date from venture firms such as Accel, Greycroft, Tiger Global, and Lakestar.[2]
Acquisitions
editPublic.com has expanded its offerings through several acquisitions. In January 2022, the company acquired Hypercharts, a financial data visualization service, aiming to enhance its analytical tools for users[3]. In March 2022, Public.com purchased Otis, a platform for fractional ownership of alternative assets, to diversify its investment options[4]. In April 2024, Public.com acquired StockTwits trading accounts.[5] The company also purchased the brokerage accounts of Carta’s secondaries businesses in August 2024[6]
Financing history
editPublic.com has secured multiple rounds of funding to fuel its growth and expansion. As reported by Crunchbase, the company has raised a total of $310 million. The largest of these rounds was a Series D, which occurred in February 2021, bringing in $220 million to support ongoing product development and market expansion.[7]
