Dr Priya Selvaraj, MD DNB MNAMS MCE, is a senior consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology[1] with specialization in reproductive medicine and clinical embryology. She has 20 years of experience in the field of Assisted Reproduction, and currently serves as the Scientific and Clinical Director of G.G.Hospitals, Fertility research and women's specialty centre, Chennai, India. Dr Priya Selvaraj, at Chennai's GG Hospital, became the first in India to successfully retrieve healthy eggs through the skin of a cancer survivor for IVF[2]. In 2008, she achieved the country’s first frozen oocyte pregnancy using the slow freezing technique[3], and in 2009, she performed India’s first twin pregnancy from frozen oocytes using oocyte vitrification. [4]
Career
editShe has been first as well as co-author for journal publications (national and international) as well as chapters in books on assisted reproduction.[5][6] She has also presented research papers at an international level. She also established a pre-implantation genetic screening and diagnosis program at GG Hospital, in association with Igenomix (Delhi) under the auspices of Prof. Carlos Simon, Igenomix, Spain. Since then, she commissioned South India’s first twin births following pre-implantation genetic screening in November 2014. Her areas of interest remain in pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, ovarian tissue cryopreservation, cytoplasmic transfer and mitochondrial studies in pre-implantation embryos. She has been felicitated at colleges and universities for her achievements in her field of specialization and was a recipient of the outstanding women achiever award by the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University in the year 2012[7]
