Biography
editHis Beginnings
editIn his native Calvados, Nico Moreno first laid hands on turntables at the age of 16. Immersed in various musical cultures thanks to his parents' love for 90s funk and his early club experiences where he mainly mixed US trap, he only started producing techno music at the age of 20. Inspired by the Drumcode label, he fell in love with techno when he realised that his productions went even further in the industrial style than his influences.
Career
editInfluenced by industrial producers such as Perc, Ansome, and Rebekah,[1] Nico Moreno definitively left commercial clubs to focus on his music. He founded the Techfrut collective with Axel Picodot[2] and had to climb the ladder of the music world again but in a whole different sphere. Quickly becoming popular thanks to his unique productions and dynamic sets, Nico Moreno owes his success to his contribution to a new movement in techno, blending different styles and bringing a generalist DJ universe into his tracks.e
Active since 2017, he quickly established his presence on the techno scene with tracks like 'Violent Conflict', 'Acid from the Abyss' with Axel Picodot, and 'Presence', released under the Grounded label. That same year, he also released 'Insolent Rave' and 'Overwhelm', affirming his taste for hard and sharp sounds. 'Purple Widow', released in 2019 on Insolent Rave Records, stood out with 15.8 million streams, and Nico Moreno continued this trend with 'Violent Methods EP' on Techno Germany Records and, in 2020, collaborated on 'Wave 4 Rave' on NineTimesNine. A year later, he bolstered his catalogue with 'Purple Widow (Original And Remix Versions)' and 'Techno Crari', the latter reaching 5.3 million streams. His recent activity in 2024, with notable collaborations like '2 Be High' with Warface, 'Hard Kicks, Cheap Thrills' with Reinier Zonneveld, and 'Why Was I Chosen' with Gravedgr, all on Insolent Rave Records, is a testament to his influence and dynamism in the techno scene.
Nico Moreno regularly captivates his audience with frequent performances on the international techno stage. On July 1, 2022, he electrified the crowd at the Kappa FuturFestival , where he participated for the first time. He ended his year on a high note by performing at the Doom event in Bogota. In 2023, he continued this momentum with major sets, including at the Aquasella festival. On July 12, he stood out at the Dour Festival, sharing the stage with other techno heavyweights. Nico Moreno also performed at notable events, such as his Boiler Room at the Teletech festival in 2023, where he delivered a remarkable hour-long set. In addition to his solo performances, Nico Moreno performs back-to-back (B2B) sets, as seen at the Rotterdam Rave Festival, where he teamed up with Klangkuenstler for a memorable set.
The year 2023 marked a milestone in terms of audience, as he surpassed one million monthly listeners on the Spotify streaming platform. His schedule for 2024 already includes important dates, with performances scheduled throughout the Americas, including the United States, Canada, and South America. He is also featured at several major festivals in Asia and Oceania, reaffirming his role as a cornerstone in the world of modern techno and opening up the genre to a wider audience.
