Mistake-based Learning is a teaching pedagogy and framework that emphasizes active and explicit learning from past or predicted errors. Though all species learn from mistakes over time, the formalized approach to dissecting errors to learn and, importantly, prevent future errors was formally introduced in a medical textbook "Mistake-based Learning in Cardiology" published by Elsevier.[1]. The learning technique dissects each mistake into an example, possible reasons it may occur, how to prevent the error, similar scenarios that involve the same error, and notable learning points. The introduction of this pedagogy has been particularly well-suited for healthcare where medical errors account for the third leading cause of death in the United States[2]
