Laharighat Revenue Circle (Assamese: লাহৰীঘাট ৰাজহ চক্ৰ) is one of the six revenue circles of Morigaon district in the Indian state of Assam.
Laharighat Revenue Circle is one of the most flood prone regions of Assam. Every year, the turbulent waters of the mighty Brahmaputra wreaks havoc in the riverine areas of the circle during the Monsoon season. Many acres of land have been lost due to continues erosion of the banks by the Brahmaputra.
Demography
editLaharighat Circle of Morigaon district has a total population of 253,582 as per the Census 2011. Out of which 129,693 are males while 123,889 are females. In 2011 there were a total 46,105 families residing in Laharighat Circle. The Average Sex Ratio of Laharighat Circle is 955.
The total literacy rate of Laharighat Circle is 57.14%. The male literacy rate is 59.15% and the female literacy rate is 55.03% in Laharighat Circle.
Religion
editMuslims form 91.26% (2,31,409) whereas Hindus form just 8.61% (21,833) of the total population of the circle. Most of the Hindus are either Bengali or Assamese while most of the Muslims are Miyas.
