Karl Worner is a professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League.

Early Career

edit

Karl was drafted by Fremantle with their first pick, the eighth overall, in the 2022 rookie draft. Originally from Victoria, Karl played for the Oakleigh Chargers in the Talent League.[1]

Although he was drafted in 2021, border restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic meant he was unable to travel from Victoria to Western Australia until February of the following year.[2] He spent 2022 playing for Fremantle's reserve side, Peel Thunder in the West Australian Football League. Worner was impressive on debut collecting 31 disposals and kicking two goals against East Fremantle.[3]

AFL Career

edit

Worner made his AFL debut in round 17 of the 2023 AFL season against Carlton at Optus Stadium. He was named as the substitute, and entered the game in the third quarter as a replacement for Mathew Johnson.[4] He would miss the next four games due to injury, before returning to Fremantle's line-up for the Western Derby collecting 15 disposals. He finished his debut season having played four games.[5]
