Doreen Assaad, born June 23 in Canada, is a Quebec politician. She has been mayor of the city of Brossard since 2017[1], and was re-elected in 2021. She was also a city councillor from 2009 to 2017. She is the second woman mayor in the history of the city of Brossard.
Education
editDoreen Assaad graduated from the University of Montreal in applied mathematics and computer science. As a specialist in business process optimization, she has worked within large companies including Desjardins Group, Canadian National and Bombardier Aeronautics. She is also certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Agent. This method is used in efforts to reduce variability in processes and thus aims to improve the overall quality of services.
Career
editDoreen Assaad was elected municipal councilor on November 3, 2009[2], for district 1 in Brossard, then she was elected for a second term as municipal councilor for district 9, still in Brossard.
As a municipal councilor, Doreen Assaad served on a number of committees, including the family and seniors committee, the intercultural committee, the environment and sustainable development advisory committee and the urban planning advisory committee. In this capacity, she worked to implement new policies to improve the quality of life of citizens and by doing politics differently.
Elected mayor in November 2017[3], Doreen Assaad was re-elected with a strong majority in 2021[4].
She was elected to the board of directors of the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) on February 21, 2023, for a two-year term[5]. She is a member of the Commission des Assises 2023 of the Union of Municipalities of Quebec (UMQ), the Commission on Planning and Transportation and the Commission on Economic Development and the Commission on Culture, Leisure and of community life.
Doreen Assaad is a member of the economic development, finance and employment commission of the Metropolitan Community of Montreal (CMM) and she is a member of the special commission of the PMAD[6]. Ms. Assaad is vice-president of the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL)[7], and has also served on the board of directors of Tourisme Montérégie since 2022.
Doreen Assaad is a member of the executive committee of the Urban agglomeration of Longueuil and she serves on the board of the agglomeration of Longueuil. She is also president of Espace MUNI, an organization that accompanies and supports municipalities and MRCs in order to offer healthy, active, supportive, inclusive and sustainable living environments.
