Production
editIn early March 2022, it was reported that works for a sequel for the 2015 film Demonte Colony would begin soon with Arulnithi in the lead role in this too. However, instead with the director of the original film R. Ajay Gnanamuthu, his associate Venky Venugopal would instead reportedly direct the film, while Gnanamuthu would be apart of the writing team.[1] On 22 May, Gnanamuthu announced the sequel. He announced that Venky would direct the film, he himself would pen the story and Arulnithi will star in the lead role. He further announced that the film is both a sequel and prequel, and that he would turn the films to a franchise.[2] In mid July, Priya Bhavani Shankar, who was paired alongside Arulnithi in Kalathil Santhippom (2021), was reported to be the lead actress, pairing alongside Arulnithi for the second time.[3] On 30 November, Arulnithi, via X, announced that Gnanamuthu would replace Venky as director, while Venky would still be part of the writing team. Priya Bhavani Shankar was announced playing the role the same day.[4] On 8 January 2023, the makers had released a 2-minute video, which revealed the cast and crew.[5] Arulnithi had wrapped up shooting his portions by 18 May.[6] The whole film shooting wrapped up by 28 June.[7] On 8 July, the team released a behind-the-scenes video also announcing the film releases in September 2023.[8] By August, Bobby Balachandran of BTG Universal had acquired the film's complete rights, and would be credited as producer.[9]
Music
editThe soundtrack and background scores for the film is composed by Sam C. S. in his fourth collaboration with Arulnithi after Iravukku Aayiram Kangal (2018), K-13 (2019), Thiruvin Kural (2023); maiden with Ajay.[5] The first single "Naraga Melangal" was released on 4 January 2024.[10]
Release
editDemonte Colony 2 was scheduled for a theatrical release in September 2023,[8] but has not released as of 2024.[11]
