Carlo Magno Marcelo is a Filipino priest.[1] who is a liturgical composer. He has written and composed over 70 songs since he started writing as assistant secretary to Jaime Cardinal Sin in 1996.[2]
Jubilee Song
editHis wrote and composed the Jubilee Song for the Jubilee Year 2000, which won an Awit Award for Best Inspirational Song. The Awit Award is one of the most prestigious award in music in the Philippines. The Jubilee Song went 5 times platinum[3] and has since been translated into several languages including Korean, Japanese, Hindi, French, and Chamorro. The song also won the Catholic Book Authors Award as a literary piece.
He also wrote and composed Only Selfless Love, commissioned by the late Jaime Cardinal Sin, for the 4th World Meeting of Families that would be hosted by the Philippines. The song got the approval of the Vatican and became the official song for the event. The song also won two Awit Awards: Best Inspirational Song and Song of the Year.
He has also been a prolific composer of Marian songs, including the song Awit sa Ina ng Sto. Rosario[4] performed by the Philippine Madrigal Singers.
His also wrote and composed the Jubilee Song for 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines entitled We Give Our Yes.[5]
