Deep Thoughts (Lil Durk album)

Deep Thoughts is the upcoming ninth studio album by American rapper Lil Durk. It is scheduled to be released through Only the Family (OTF), Alamo Records, and Sony Music on January 31, 2025.[1] The album features a confirmed guest appearance from Hunxho. Production was handled by Southside among others. Deep Thoughts serves as the follow-up to Durk's previous album, Almost Healed, and his collaborative compilation album with OTF titled Nightmares in the Trenches (2023). The album was originally supposed to be released on October 18, 2024, but was pushed back due to unknown reasons and then delayed again after he was arrested six days later in relation to a murder-for-hire case.[2]

Background and promotion

edit

On December 11, 2023, Durk announced that he had begun working on his next album.[3] On January 22, 2024, Durk announced that his next album would be Love Songs 4 the Streets 3.[4] On February 23, Durk released "Old Days".[5] On June 28, he released the track, "Went Hollywood for a Year".[6]

On September 25, Durk released the album's lead single, "Turn Up a Notch".[7] However, upon the release of the album's second single, "Monitoring Me" on October 4, the tracklist was confirmed fake.[8] Furthermore, Durk announced the release of the album alongside the release of the single.[9]

On October 25, Durk was arrested along with five affiliates of his record label and collective Only the Family in connection to a murder-for-hire case targeted towards fellow American rapper and rival Quando Rondo; this was in retaliation for the murder of his close friend and collaborator King Von by one of Rondo's crew members. The arrest has delayed the album's release date to 2025.[10]
