editThe origins of Cosette are unclear. The leading theory is that Hugo derived Cosette from the French word chosette, meaning 'little thing'.[1][better source needed] Another theory is that it is derived from the Greek masculine name Nicholas, itself meaning 'victory of the people' or 'victorious'.[2]
Popularity
editFrom 2013 to 2020, at least a hundred girls from the United States were named Cosette except for 2019.[3]
