Category:Superstitions

This is a little awkward. There is a bit of an edit back-and-forth about including category:prayer under category:superstitions. Certainly anyone who believes in prayer isn't going to see it that way. However, that is POV. The reality is that objectively, prayer is a very obvious example of a superstition. If we look at the definition on Category:superstitions we see that the category is for articles and categories "...that depict a superstition, an irrational belief or a set of behaviors that are related to magical thinking, whereby the practitioner believes that the future, or the outcome of certain events can be influenced by certain specified behaviors." That is exactly what a prayer is. I think the hang up may be the term "irrational belief" which has negative connotations. However, there is also an innocent interpretation of this too. I am pretty sure that most if not all religion do not begrudge those who call their behavior irrational, as rationality is not their priority, faith is.Greg Bard (talk) 22:39, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

I agree, it's also full on nonsensical statements about the "finite" contacting the "infinite", whatever those are suppose to mean. Prayer is not validated in any scientific studies, therefore it's a superstition.--119.193.155.51 (talk) 16:31, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
